6 Operation
– The water level may not be reduced below the minimum
immersion depth of the pump (fig. 3 & 4). The level control is
to be set at the following minimum level:

The mechanical seal must not run dry!
ATTENTION!
– Dry running reduces the life of motor, seals and
mechanical seal.
– As protection against dry running for the me-
chanical seal and shaft sealing ring, the motor
is fitted with an oil-filled separating chamber.
– When using the TP pumps' base elbow the ground clearance
for the pump is to be taken into account and the water level
to be observed adjusted accordingly.
– When filling the shaft or lowering the pump into the pit make
sure that the float switches can move freely.
– To avoid the formation of an insulating air cushion on the me-
chanical seal and therefore dry running, a certain amount of
the flow medium always escapes via air vent slots when the
pump is operated.
– Open shut-off valve.
– Switch on pump.
6.1
Direction of rotation
(only for three-phase current motors):
The correct direction of rotation must be tested before the pump
is submerged. The correct direction of rotation is indicated by
a directional arrow on the top of the pump chamber.
– Hold the pump in your hand (fig. 7),
– Briefly switch on the pump. The pump will move in the oppo-
site direction to the motor.
– If the direction of rotation is incorrect, 2 phases of the mains
connection must be exchanged.
– Model „A" (fig. 8): Push in the phase inverter in the EEC plug
with a suitable screwdriver and rotate through 180°.
6.2
Operating condition in potentially explosive locations
– In the case of pumps which are installed for stationary use,
in compliance with EN 50014. On the handle of the casing
there is an earth terminal to which the earthed conductor is
to be connected.
– The level must be controlled via the type „N" level transmit-
ter, whereby it must be ensured that the permissible minimum
level is maintained.
Adjusting the control level: see instructions for assembly and
installation of the control level.
– See catalogue for switchgear to be used and other acces-
sories.
– Restrictions in acc. with LCIE 95.D6073 X or LCIE 96.D6168 X:
– Motor completely submerged at 60 °C (*) Media tempera-
ture maximum running time 5 minutes.
– Motor dry at 35 °C (*) Media temperature maximum running
time 10 minutes.
– If the media temperature is greater than 40 °C (*) (conti-
nuous mode), under no circumstances must the equipment
be operated in an atmosphere that can ignite at a surface

temperature of 135 °C, increased by the difference of the
media temperature and 40 °C (*).
(*) Maximum media temperature: 35 °C
Switchgear and switch boxes are to be installed

outside the potentially explosive area.
7 Maintenance
Bearings and seals are maintenance-free. We would neverthe-
less recommend that the pump be inspected and maintained
once every six months by WILO customer services.
In order to avoid infection maintenance work should
only be carried out using protective gloves.
For all maintenance and repair work the pump is to
be switched off-circuit and protected against unau-
thorised re-starting.
In principle, damage to the connecting cable should
only be repaired by a qualified electrician.
