Sediment Trap Assembly
Assemble the tee, nipples and cap together and
tighten securely. See Fig. 4. The sediment trap
assembly must always be mounted in a vertical
position. Make sure pipe thread compound that is
resistant to both L.P. gas and natural gas is used in
making all connections. Check all connections for
gas leaks using approved gas leak detectors.

WARNING
Electrical Shock Hazard
■ Disconnect the electrical supply before
connecting the thermostat to the heater.
■ Failure to follow this warning can result in
electrical shock, leading to personal injury
or death.
A. To connect the in-line thermostat kit (part number
500-09454) to heater models that do not have a
unit mounted thermostat.
1. Locate the wires labeled POWER SUPPLY TO
THERMOSTAT and POWER RETURN FROM
THERMOSTAT within the heater's electrical
junction box. See Fig. 5.
2. Remove the wire nuts from these wires. Keep
the wire nuts.
3. Twist the exposed conductors of these wires
together. Cap off with the wire nuts removed
earlier.
4. Install the junction box cover onto the junction
box using the screws provided with the cover.
5. Connect the power cord of the heater to female
side of the connector on the end of the kit's
thermostat cord set.
6. Connect the male side of the thermostat kit's
cord to a standard 115 VAC electrical outlet.

7. Turn the thermostat to a setting above room
temperature. The heater will operate.
B. To connect the in-line (part number 500-09454)
to heater models that shipped with unit mounted
thermostat.
1. Connect the power cord of the heater to female
side of the connector on the end of the kit's
thermostat cord set.
2. Connect the male side of the thermostat kit's
HOSE ADAPTER
cord to a standard 115 VAC electrical outlet.
3. Turn the thermostat on the heater to its highest
TEE
temperature.
4. Set the in-line thermostat to desired temperature.

The in-line thermostat will now cycle the heater
on and off.

C. To wire a thermostat to the junction box on heaters
without unit mounted thermostat.)
1. Obtain the desired length of 18 gauge cord set
(consisting of hot,neutral, and ground leads.),
plus a spade terminal that accepts 18 gauge
electrical wire.
2. Locate the wires labeled POWER SUPPLY TO
THERMOSTAT and POWER RETURN FROM
THERMOSTAT within the heater's electrical junc-
tion box. See Fig. 5.
3. Remove the wire nuts from these wires.
