Observe the instructions for use and put them up in a visible place near the
charging station.
Work on the batteries only as instructed by qualified persons.
No smoking!
Open flames, glow or sparks near the battery cause a risk of explosion and fire!
Wear goggles, safety gloves and protective clothing when handling batteries.
Take heed of the accident prevention regulations and DIN EN 62485-3,
DIN EN 50110-1.
Wash eyes or skin with plenty of clear water after contact with acid splashes.
Immediately consult a physician.
Use water to remove acid from your clothing.
Risk of explosion and fire – avoid short circuits.
Avoid electrostatic charge/discharge and sparks.
The electrolyte is highly corrosive.
Contact with the electrolyte is excluded in normal operation. In case the cell
case is destroyed, escaping fixed electrolyte is as corrosive as liquid electrolyte.
Do not tip over or tilt the battery.
Use the approved lifting and transport gear only, e.g. lifting gear to VDI 3616.
Check that the lifting hooks do not damage the cells, connectors or cables.
Dangerous voltage
Caution! The metal parts of the battery cells always carry potential.
Do not place external objects or tools on the battery.
Battery hazard warning
Non-compliance with the instructions for use, repairs made with other than the original spare parts,
unauthorized manipulation and using electrolyte additives (allegedly enhancing performance) will void
the warranty.
ATEX-Directive 2014/34/EU (94/9/EC) contains mandatory instructions for how to maintain the associated
degree of protection of batteries in service (refer to the product's EC type examination certificate).
The separate instructions for using the consumables apply in excess of the above.
Keep and recycle used batteries separate from domestic waste (EWC 160601).
The handling of used batteries is subject to the EU Battery Directive (2006/66/EC)
and the associated national regulations (in this case: Battery Ordinance).
Pb
Agree the return and disposal of used batteries with the battery manufacturer or
contact a local disposal service provider.

EPzV batteries are valve regulated lead-acid-
batteries whose electrolyte is fixed and which
must never be watered throughout their service
life. They are plugged by safety valves which will
be destroyed when opened.
To avoid electric shock, an explosion of electro-
lytic charging gases and risks caused by the
corrosive electrolyte in case the cell cases are
destroyed, sealed batteries in operative use
must meet the same safety requirements as
liquid electrolyte batteries.
1.
Startup
Check the battery's mechanical health. Check
that the battery lead-out is reliably connected to
the correct poles. You may otherwise destroy
the battery, vehicle or charger.
Recharge the battery as described in section
2.2. To tighten the pole screws of lead-outs and
connectors: Apply the following tightening
torque:
steel
M10
23 ± 1 Nm
2.
Operation
The operation of vehicle traction batteries is
subject to DIN EN 62485-3 Traction Batteries.
Install the battery such that the temperature
between adjacent cells can never differ by more
than 3 K due to ambient conditions.
2.1 Discharge cycle
Do not close or cover the ventilation slots.
De energize the circuit before opening or closing
electrical connections (e.g. plugs).
To maximize the service life of the battery, check
that it never discharges by more than 60 % of its
nominal capacity. A discharge level of more than
80 % of the nominal capacity is considered an
inadmissible total discharge which will essen-
tially shorten the battery's service life. To check
the discharge level, only use the discharge level
gages approved by the battery manufacturer.
Immediately recharge discharged batteries and
avoid leaving them in a discharged state. The
same applies to partly discharged batteries.
2.2 Charging
Supply direct charging current only. The charg-
ing methods described in DIN 41773 apply as
modified by the manufacturer's approval only.
You must therefore use charges approved by the
manufacturer only.
