Example 1:
When a low electrode signal is applied, the system builds up the lowest gripping force to grip an
object.
Example 2:
When a higher electrode signal is applied, a greater gripping force is generated. Secondary grip­
ping with a stronger electrode signal increases the gripping force up to the maximum.
Example 3:
The hand is fully open. After the OPEN muscle has relaxed, the hand slowly moves to the neutral
position. An OPEN signal allows the hand to move out of the neutral position again.

The open position of the Michelangelo Hand is the initial position for lateral mode, opposition
mode and the neutral position. It is only possible to exit the neutral position by fully opening
the Michelangelo Hand.
The Michelangelo Hand is opened with a quick and strong signal and closed with a slow, gentle
signal.
The gripping speed and gripping force are determined by the strength of the electrode signal
(resulting from the muscle contraction). The gripping force can be increased up to the maximum
gripping force at any time through a stronger electrode signal.
Only when the Michelangelo Hand is in the fully opened hand position does it change to the neut­
ral position if the hand is not controlled via the electrode signals. While closing to the neutral pos­
ition, the system builds up the minimum gripping force (approx. 15 N).
Opening:
At a proportional speed by means of a fast and strong muscle signal.
Closing:
At a proportional speed by means of a slow and gentle muscle signal.
Example 1:
With a fast and strong electrode signal, the hand opens at a proportional speed.
Example 2:
The hand is fully open. After the OPEN muscle has relaxed, the hand slowly moves to the neutral
position. An OPEN signal allows the hand to move out of the neutral position again.

With a slow and gentle electrode signal, the hand closes at a proportional speed and gripping
force.
