6.3 IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS

To edgeband narrow boards:
If you must edgeband a board less than 100 mm wide, it
is recommended to use auxiliary board A (Fig. 40.1) as a
support, in the same thickness and length as the board
being edgebanded, and equipped with a step to pull the
small board.
When working on boards between 140 and 250 mm wide,
it is advisable to lower the feeder height by around 0.5
mm. For example, for 19 mm boards, the feeder indicator
must show 18.5 (See Figure 40.2). Do not forget to reset
the feeder to 19 when working with boards longer than
250 mm. Otherwise, the advance system may seize and
fail to operate correctly.
Regarding the boards:
• It is advisable to use good quality, high density boards.
• The boards must be as flat as possible and unwarped. A
tolerance of ± 0.1 mm per metre is recommended.
• Cuts must be clean, with no rough edges.
• The boards must be clean for edgebanding, free of both
dust and moisture.
(Figure 40.2)
A
• The cut must be made at 90º to the board thickness
and length.
• For better edgebanding, the boards must be at a tem-
perature between 12 and 25ºC.
Regarding the glue:
Good quality hot melt glue must be used, which has a
working temperature between 180 and 210ºC, and is apt
for application at a speed of 5 m/minute.
The amount of glue deposited must be adjusted to the
porosity of the board.
The glue properties deteriorate if it is subjected to repea-
ted heating and cooling. If your production is frequent
but small in size, it is recommended to keep a low level of
glue in the tank and change it whenever necessary.
Test board:
It is highly recommended to perform a test before begin-
ning the edgebanding of an entire manufacturing series.
This way, if the results of the test are unsatisfactory, it
is possible to make small corrections in the settings wi-
thout losing an entire series.
