Replacing the sensor
3.2.2
Connecting the sensor connection housing to
PointGard
For the connection to PointGard, the transmitter cable harness (X) is not
required. It can be disposed of professionally or returned to Dräger.
1. Feed the field wiring through the cable entry into the PointGard housing and
connect it to the remote CatEx sensor connection (Fig. G).
In case of 3-core field wiring:
● Use double ferrules (Fig. I).
2. Close PointGard (see the instructions for use of the transmitter).
3.3
Connecting to a controller
● If the sensor connection housing is used with a Polytron 5000/8000, connect
the Polytron 5000/8000 transmitter to the controller.
● If the sensor connection housing is used with a PointGard 3000, the signal
output of the PointGard 3000 can be connected to an additional controller if
required.
● If the sensor connection housing is used with a PIR 7x00 or PIR 3000,
connect the field wiring of the sensor connection housing directly to the
controller. In doing so, observe the following assignment:

Replacing the sensor
Observe the instructions for use of the sensors and of the transmitter or
evaluation unit.
To replace the sensors, remove the sensor plug from the coupling of the
cable harness.
The wires of the cable harness must not be removed from the terminal block. If
the wires are removed, reconnect the wires to the correct terminals with the aid
of the label (e.g., connect plug 1a with socket 1a).
1. Unscrew the lid.
2. Remove the sensor plug from the coupling of the cable harness (Y).
3. Unscrew the old sensor.
4. Screw in the new sensor (266 +44 LB IN./30 +5 Nm / at least 5 rotations, a
higher torque may be necessary). In doing so, observe the preferred
orientation of the sensor (Fig. A2).
With PIR 7x00 sensors (Fig. A2a), the "Dräger" lettering on the splash
guard must read horizontally. A deviation from the horizontal of ±30°
maximum is permissible.
5. Connect the sensor plug with the coupling of the cable harness (Y) (Fig.
B1).
For CatEx sensors, twist the sensor cables with 7 rotations (Fig. B2).
6. Attach the lid and tighten it (≥44 LB IN. / ≥5 Nm) (Fig. E).
7. Tighten the locking screw (≥ 4.9 LB IN. / ≥0.55 Nm) (Fig. E).
