Installation
3.1
Installing the sensor connection housing
The installation is described for the following configurations:
–
An existing sensor from a Polytron 5000/8000 is used.
–
A sensor connection housing with a sensor already mounted ex works is
used.
–
A sensor connection housing and a separately ordered sensor are used.
1. If the sensor is to be used from a Polytron 5000/8000:
Unscrew the sensor from the transmitter.
2. If a PIR 7x00 sensor is used:
If necessary, mount the sensor connection housing on the mounting spacer
6812617 (Fig. D) so that the sensor has enough space.
3. Mount the sensor connection housing with M6 (1/4") hexagon socket head
cap screws to one of the following options:
Option
Mounting on a flat surface
Mounting to a bar
Mounting in a duct/pipe
4. Earth the sensor connection housing on the earthing screw (Fig. A1).
5. Unscrew the lid.
6. If the sensor is not yet mounted in the sensor connection housing:
a. Screw in the sensor (266 +44 LB IN./30 +5 Nm / at least 5 rotations, a
higher torque may be necessary). In doing so, observe the preferred
orientation of the sensor (Fig. A2).
With PIR 7x00 sensors (Fig. A2a), the "Dräger" lettering on the
splash guard must read horizontally. A deviation from the horizontal of
±30° maximum is permissible.

b. Connect the sensor plug with the coupling of the cable harness (Y) (Fig.
B1).
For CatEx sensors, twist the sensor cables with 7 rotations (Fig. B2).
7. Feed the field wiring through the cable entry and connect it to terminal (Y).
In case of 3-core field wiring:
● Install screw bridges between contacts 1a/1b and 3a/3b of the terminals.
(Fig. C).
8. Attach the lid and tighten it (≥44 LB IN. / ≥5 Nm) (Fig. E).
9. Tighten the locking screw (≥ 4.9 LB IN. / ≥0.55 Nm) (Fig. E).
10. Close unused housing openings with screw plugs.
11. Tighten all cable entries and blind plugs (266 +44 LB IN./30 +5 Nm / at least
5 rotations, a higher torque may be necessary).

Connecting to a transmitter
3.2.1
Connecting sensor connection housing to
Polytron 5000/8000
1. Screw the remote cable harness set into the Polytron housing (Fig. F1).
2. Feed the field wiring through the cable entry into the Polytron housing and
connect it to the terminal (Fig. G).
In case of 3-core field wiring:
● Install screw bridges between contacts 1a/1b and 3a/3b of the terminal
(Fig. C).
3. Place the cable shield on one of the two earthing screws of the Polytron
(Fig. G1).
4. Connect the cable harness's plug to the socket of the PCB unit of the
Polytron.
5. Close Polytron (see the instructions for use of the transmitter).
