The device is intended for use in protective equipment for the safety-related detection
of objects in mobile and stationary applications.
Two fields of application and functions are described below, each of which has its own
device version:
1
Object between sensor and reference object or reference surface
2
Absence of reference object or reference surface
The safety-related states relevant to the safety-related function present can be dis‐
played via the digital outputs of the device.
Safety-related states are signals at interfaces that prompt the downstream processing
units (e.g., controller) to respond in a safety-related manner by initiating or maintaining
the safe state in the system.
In conjunction with a suitable external test device or controller, the device fulfills SIL1
safety functions according to IEC 61508, PL c (Cat 2) according to ISO 13849-1, and
Performance Class C according to IEC TS 62998-1. It can be used within its area of
application for risk reduction according to its features.
For this safety-related function, the sensor is used to detect the presence of an object
between the sensor itself and a reference object or surface and provide a defined
switching signal depending on the situation present. The corresponding output signal
can then be used by a downstream controller to put the application into a safe state
(e.g., stopping a vehicle).
