"CREATE" YOUR WATER GARDEN (continued)
ADD WATER
Check to ensure that your liner is anchored in place. Fill the remainder of
your water garden with water until it is full. As your water garden is
filling, adjust the liner to better form fit your custom shaped pond basin.
Try to smooth out wrinkles and creases where possible.
Tip:
UV sunlight protection for your liner should be added prior to filling the
pond with water. Some water gardeners prefer to line the bottom and slopes
of their pond with small rocks or pebbles. Be sure to wash excess dirt from
the rocks/pebbles to help keep your pond water clean.Adding rocks or
pebbles to your pond will help preserve your liner, however, it is not required
for successful water gardening. It is natural for the underwater rocks and
liner to turn green over time.
LANDSCAPING AND EDGING
With your liner now secured by the water, place your edging around
the outside of the water garden. You may need to adjust the liner to
make sure it is secure under the edging and completely concealed.
Trim the excess liner around the outside of your edging — try to keep
a minimum of 12" of liner along the pond perimeter. A less expensive
alternative is the "rockless" edging, where you build the liner into the
ground. If you use this approach, special care should be taken to keep
debris and soil out of your pond.
Congratulations! You are now an official water gardener,
ready to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of your new
gardening creation.
