1. Safety considerations
1.1 General
Installation, start-up and servicing of this
equipment can be hazardous if certain factors
particular to the installation are not considered:
presence of electrical components and voltages
and the installation site.
Only properly qualified installation engineers
and highly qualified installers and technicians,
fully trained for the product, are authorised to
install and start up this equipment safely.
This appliance is not intended for use by
persons (including children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack
of experience and knowledge, unless they have
been given supervision or instruction
concerning use of the appliance by a person
responsible for their safety. Children should be
supervised to ensure that they do not play with
the appliance.
During all servicing operations all instructions
and recommendations which appear in the
service instructions, on labels or in instructions
that are supplied with any of the equipment, as
well as any other applicable safety instructions
must be followed.
Apply all standard safety codes and
practices.
Wear safety glasses and gloves.
1.2 Protection against electrocution
ONLY PERSONNEL QUALIFIED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH IEC (INTERNATION-
AL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION)
RECOMMENDATIONS MAY BE PERMIT-
TED ACCESS TO ELECTRICAL
COMPONENTS. IT IS PARTICULARLY
RECOMMENDED THAT ALL SOURCES OF
ELECTRICITY TO THE UNIT BE SHUT OFF
BEFORE ANY WORK IS BEGUN. SHUT
OFF THE MAIN POWER SUPPLY AT THE
MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER OR ISOLATOR.
The components of the WTC control system
include electronic elements. They can generate
electromagnetic disturbance or suffer
disturbance if they are not installed and used in
accordance with these instructions.

This equipment has been declared to be in
conformity with the following standards:
Electromagnetic compatibility:
96/336/EEC
Low-voltage directives:
73/23/EEC and 93/68/EEC
1.3 General installation requirements
The controller must have an isolation device
installed upstream, e.g. dual-pole circuit breaker.
If required, an accessible emergency stop device
(e.g. punch type disconnect switch) must allow
de-energising all units.
The isolation devices must be sized and installed
in accordance with recommendation IEC 60364.
They are not supplied by Carrier.
The main installation requirements are:
The isolation device must be clearly marked
to show the equipment that is connected to
this device.
The wiring of the components that are part
of the WTC control system as well as the
communication buses must comply with the
standard regulations of professional
installers.
The components of the WTC control
system must be installed in an environment
that complies with the IP protection index.
The maximum pollution level is normal
pollution (level 2) and the installation
category is II.
To prevent interference with connection
cables, do the following:
Physically separate the low-voltage cables
(communication bus, room temperature
sensor, user interface, etc.) from the power
wiring. Do not use the same cable routing
(maximum 300 mm common with the 230
VAC, 30 A cable).
Do not route low-voltage cables in the
power wiring loops.
Do not connect large inductive loads to the
power source (disconnect switch) that
supplies the controllers.
Use the shielded cable and maintain cables
connected to the controllers.
SELV (Separated Extra Low Voltage) inputs/
outputs must be connected to class 3 devices
or to SELV sections of class 2 devices.
