Possible cause
PSP removed from the barrier
envelope before scanning
A metal part of the X-ray tube is
in front of the X-ray beam
Faulty edge masking in imaging
software
The X-ray dose on the PSP was
insufficient
Amplification (HV value) is set
too low in the software
Unsuitable scanning mode
selected
The setting for the threshold
value is too high
PSP has been pre-exposed, e.g.
by natural radiation or stray X-
ray radiation
Parts of PSP exposed to light
during handling
PSP dirty or scratched
Too much incident ambient light
during the scanning process
Remedy
Do not handle PSPs without a
barrier envelope.
Store the PSP in a barrier
envelope.
Recording an X-ray image,
make sure there are no metal
parts between the X-ray tube
and the patient.
Check X-ray tube.
Deactivate edge masking.
Increase X-ray dose.
Increase amplification (HV
value).
Select a suitable scanning
mode.
Reduce the threshold value.
If the PSP has been stored for
more than one week, erase
the PSP prior to use.
Do not expose exposed PSPs
to bright light.
Scan image data within half
an hour after the exposure.
Clean the PSP.
Replace scratched PSP.
Darken the room.
Turn the unit such that no light
is directly incident on the input
unit.
