8.2.10 Soft start
If the AS3-SV safety valve is activated, the operating line is pressurized. The time
required for the output pressure to reach approx. 50 % of the input pressure can
be changed using the "soft start function". To do so, turn the adjustment screw
for the "soft start function" (4), see Fig. 2.
If you turn the adjustment screw in a clockwise direction, the time required for
the output pressure to reach approx. 50 % of the input pressure is increased. Turn
the adjustment screw in an anti-clockwise direction to reduce the time.
The time interval is directly influenced by the volume of the system
that is currently being filled. The time to reach 50 % of the input pres-
sure is longer in systems with larger volumes than in systems with
smaller volumes.
In some applications, it may be the case that the AS3-SV fails and dis-
plays fault 39 (see "Troubleshooting").
u Do not work with the maximum time for the soft start at low pres-
sures.
u Do not deactivate the AS3-SV safety valve during operation when
the soft start function is being started up, but only in the fully pres-
surized state.
9 Care and maintenance
9.1 Maintain the AS3-SV safety valve
Damage to the product due to the use of solvents and aggressive cleaning
agents!
The product can be damaged if washed with a solvent or aggressive cleaning
agent. The chemical resistance of the valve material cannot be guaranteed if
exposed for such agents. Solvents and aggressive detergents will destroy the
surface, labeling and seals of the product.
Make sure that no solvents and aggressive cleaning agents come into con-
u
tact with the valve.
Damage to the product due to washing at high pressures and temperatures!
The product will be damaged if you clean it with high pressure and/or at a high
temperature.
Make sure that the product is not cleaned with high pressure and/or at a
u
high temperature.
No special care is required for the AS3-SV safety valve. Note the following if you
would like to clean the valve:

NOTICE
NOTICE
1. Check that all seals and plugs for the plug connections are firmly seated so
that no humidity can penetrate the AS3-SV safety valve during cleaning.
2. Only clean the AS3-SV safety valve using a slightly damp cloth. Only use water
to do this and, if necessary, a mild detergent.
9.2 Maintain the AS3-SV safety valve
Risk of injury while working with a running system!
Working with the system while it is running can cause major injuries from mov-
ing machinery.
Bring the system into a state in which working movements are no longer
u
possible. Wait until all moving machine parts are standing still, and protect
the system from being switched on.
In normal operation, the AS3-SV safety valve is maintenance-free. However to en-
sure the correct function, the AS3-SV safety valve must be actuated at least once
per month.
Activate the AS3-SV safety valve at least once per month.
u
The AS3 safety valve seals may age faster in aggressive ambient conditions. A
damaged seal can be recognized by parts of the seal visibly protruding from the
housing gaps. Defective seals will lead to pneumatic leaks.
1. Regularly check that the seals are in perfect order.
2. Immediately exchange the AS3-SV safety valve if the seals are defective.
3. Check regularly whether all plug connectors are firmly fitted.
4. Establish the maintenance intervals according to your ambient conditions and
store them in the system-dependent maintenance plan.
5. Observe the system-specific maintenance intervals.
In case of any maintenance requirements, it is advisable to replace the entire
AS3-SV safety valve as this is the only way of ensuring a life cycle value for the en-
tire valve.
The operator is responsible for determining the maintenance intervals.
10 Disassembly and exchange
Danger of injury if disassembled under pressure or voltage!
Uncontrolled movement of the system components!
Make sure that the system is not under pressure or voltage when you disas-
u
semble the AS3-SV safety valve.
Contamination during disassembly!
During disassembly, greases or lubricant may escape from the AS3-SV safety
valve.
Make sure that the environment is not contaminated with grease or lubri-
u
cant during disassembly.
10.1 Disassembling the AS3-SV
1. Stipulate a signal on safety inputs 1/2 to deactivate the AS3-SV safety valve
and to exhaust the outlet line on outlet connection 2.
2. Switch off the 24 V DC supply.
3. Remove the connected plugs.
4. Switch off the supply pressure and exhaust the supply line.
5. Remove the pneumatic lines.
6. Remove the valve fastening screws depending on the mounting type.
Disassembly is now completed.
10.2 Exchange the AS3-SV
1. Replace the AS3-SV safety valve as described in chapter "Disassembling the
AS3-SV".
2. Mount a new AS3-SV safety valve as described in chapter "Assembly".
