CHAPTER

4.1 INTENDED USE

The Personal Protective Equipment class III 228.020, known as KES 2 is a:
- automatic descender device conform to the standard EN 341:2011 type 1 class A, exploitable
by 2 users (maximum descent load 225kg) to descent a maximum height of 300 meters,
- rescue lifting device, conform to the standard EN 1496:2007 class B, exploitable by 2 users
(maximum load 225kg) with an additional hand-operated lowering function intended for
lowering a person over a distance limited to 2 m.
Warning:
- KES shall be used exclusively for descent/abseil and lift persons!
- prolonged withdrawal (prolonged descent or waiting for rescue) , especially if
inert, can induce the suspension syndrome (or trauma) which causes loss of
consciousness and even death: it is essential to immediately call for assistance
and evacuate injured person as short as possible.

4.2 METHODS OF USE

4.2.1 General

This device can only be connected to:
- energy absorbers conform to EN 355,
- carabiners conform to EN 362,
- lanyards conform to EN 354,
- full body harnesses EN 361,
- rescue harnesses conform to EN 1497,
- anchoring points conform to EN 795.
Warning:
- during the descent/abseil the device gets heated up: use gloves to protect your
hands,
- excessive or dynamic loads may damage device and rope,
- avoid sliding the rope on sharp edges or place adequate protections
Important: for each descent/abseil calculate its own energy produced, as defined in chapter
3.4, and register it on a designated register, an example of which is shown in chapter 10
