the combination of belay device – belaying karabiner – climbing
rope(s) and the OHM as well as to check the weight difference
between persons in the rope team before using the device; do so
in a safe location (near the ground / at jump height). The
properties differ slightly with some of the applications described
(e.g. the actual brake action); this is due to different rope
diameters and surfaces.
Before and after use, check the product for signs of damage (e.
g. deformation, fissures and corrosion); ensure that it is safe to
use. Immediately remove the product from use, if there is even
the slightest doubt concerning its safe condition.
Before any belaying or abseiling job, be sure to check that the
rope has been inserted correctly and that the unit is functioning
properly.
Smooth ropes, moisture or icing may negatively influence the
braking action of the unit.
GENERAL NOTES CONCERNING SAFETY, SERVICE LIFE,
STORAGE, MAINTENANCE AND IDENTIFICATION
Safety notes
If this product is combined with other equipment parts, these
may mutually impair operating safety.
The product must be used only in connection with CE-marked
components of personal protective equipment (PPA) for falling
from a height.
If original components of the product are modified or removed,
the safety properties may be influenced adversely. The
equipment should not be modified in any way, e. g. for
attachment of additional components, unless this has been
expressly approved by the manufacturer in writing.
Attention! The products must not be subjected to damaging
influences. These include contact with corrosive or
aggressive substances (e. g.: acids, lye, soldering fluid, oils,
cleaning agents) as well as extreme temperatures and flying
sparks. Sharp edges, moisture and icing particularly may
substantially impair the tensile strength of textile products!
Climate for use
The continuous operating temperature of the product (in dry
condition) ranges from approx. –30°C to +60°C.
Service life and replacement
The service life of the product essentially depends on the type
and frequency of application as well as on external influences.
Maximum service life is achieved under optimum storage
conditions (see storage) and without use: metal parts: unlimited.
Occasional use: With occasional proper use, without traceable
wear and given optimum storage conditions: 10 years
Frequent or extreme use, fall loading (fall factor >1): With
frequent use or high work load, e. g. use with contaminated
ropes, the service life may be shortened substantially, it may
even drop below two years.
Generally, the product must be withdrawn from use immediately
if it has been subjected to a fall or shows signs of damage; it shall
then be turned over to a qualified person or the manufacturer for
inspection and/or repair including a written certification.
Remove the product from service immediately if any of the
following applies
fall and impact from great height,
extreme grooving and/or deformation,
sharp edges have formed due to abrasion,
visible damages or impaired function
