• Store tool/charger/battery in locations where
temperature will not exceed 40°C or drop below 0°C
• Do not use charger when damaged; take it to one of the
officially registered SKIL Service Stations for a safety
check
• Do not use charger when cord or plug is damaged; cord
or plug should be replaced immediately at one of the
officially registered SKIL Service Stations
• Do not use battery when damaged; it should be
replaced immediately
• Do not disassemble charger or battery
• Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries
with the charger
EXPLANATION OF SYMBOLS ON TOOL/CHARGER/
BATTERY
③ Warning! Read the instruction manual
④ Do not expose tool/charger/battery to rain
⑤ Wear protective glasses and hearing protection
⑥ Pay attention to the risk of injury caused by flying
debris (keep bystanders a safe distance away from
work area)
⑦ Only use the charger indoors
⑧ Double insulation (no earth wire required)
⑨ Batteries may explode when disposed of in fire, so do
not burn battery for any reason
⑩ Store tool/charger/battery in locations where
temperature will not exceed 50°C
⑪ Do not dispose of the charger together with household
waste material
⑫ Do not dispose of the battery together with household
waste material
WHEN CONNECTING NEW 3-PIN PLUG (U.K. ONLY):
• If for any reason the old plug is cut off the cord of the
charger, it must be disposed of safely and not left
unattended
• Do not connect the blue (= neutral) or brown (= live) wire
in the cord of the charger to the earth terminal of the
plug
USE
• Always remove battery from tool before making any
adjustment or changing any accessory, in order to
reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally
• Assembly instructions ⑬
- the sequence of the numbers appearing in the drawing
corresponds with the sequence of the steps to be
followed for assembling the tool
- mount cutting guard A as illustrated with round head
screw supplied
! firmly tighten all screws
! never use the tool without cutting guard A
• Adjusting guide handle ⑭
- loosen/tighten handle B ② by turning it
counter-clockwise/clockwise
• Height adjustment ⑮
For adjusting the tool height so that your front arm is
straight when trimming
- loosen locking sleeve C by turning it clockwise
- extend tube D to the desired height
- tighten locking sleeve C by turning it counter-clockwise
• Charging battery ⑯
- battery of new tools is not fully charged
- connect charger E to power source as illustrated ⑯a
- green light F will turn on indicating that the charger is
ready for operation ⑯a
- insert battery G into charger as illustrated ⑯b
- green light F will blink indicating that the battery is
being charged ⑯b
- after approximately 1 hour the battery is fully charged
and green light F stays on after blinking ⑯c
IMPORTANT:
- if green light F does not blink after inserting a battery,
this may mean:
1) that the battery is too cold or too hot (charger only
charges batteries when its temperature is between
0°C and 45°C)
2) that the battery should be replaced
- the lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time
(interrupting the charging procedure does not damage
the battery)
- the lithium-ion battery does not have to be empty
before charging (no "memory-effect" as with nickel-
cadmium batteries)
- while charging, the charger and the battery may
become warm to touch; this is normal and does not
indicate a problem
- ensure that the outside surface of the battery is clean
and dry before inserting into charger
- do not remove battery from tool while it is running
- a significantly reduced working period after charging
indicates that the battery is worn out and should be
replaced
• Battery protection
Switches off the tool automatically when
1) the load is too high
2) the battery temperature is not within the allowable
operating temperature range of -10 to +50°C
3) the lithium-ion battery is nearly empty (to protect
against deep discharge)
! do not continue to press the on/off switch after
the tool is switched off automatically; battery may
be damaged
• On/off ⑰
- switch on/off the tool by pulling/releasing trigger H
! after switching off the tool the blade continues to
rotate for a few seconds
- allow the cutting blade to stop rotating before
switching on again
! do not rapidly switch on and off
• Trimming
! ensure that the cutting area is free of stones,
debris and other foreign objects
! start trimming only when tool runs at full speed
- cut long grass in layers (always start from the top)
- only trim with the tip of the cutting blade
- do not cut damp or wet grass
- prevent the cut grass from clogging the blade (do not
make heavy cuts)
- do not overload the tool
- carefully cut around trees and bushes, so that they do
not come into contact with the cutting blade
- use flower guard J ⑱ to protect vulnerable flowers
- keep the tool away from solid objects in order to
protect the cutting blade against excessive wear
- be aware of the kickback forces that occur when solid
objects are touched
