Gas safety
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, personal injury, or death, observe these
precautions:
Checking for gas leaks
Leak-testing the appliance must be done according to the manufacturer's instructions. Do
not use a flame to check for gas leaks. Use a brush to spread a soap-and-water solution
around the area you are checking. If there is a gas leak, small bubbles will appear in the
solution.
If you smell gas:
• Close the valve and do not use the cooktop.
• Do not light a match, candle, or cigarette.
• Do not turn on any gas or electric appliances.
• Do not touch an electrical switch or plug in a power cord.
• Do not use any phone in your building.
• Evacuate everyone from the building.
• Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor's phone. Follow the gas supplier's
instructions.
• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
