MAINTENANCE

Use of a new battery

•
Make sure that the ignition switch is set to
•
Remove the seat (see page 29)
•
Remove the fuel tank covers bolts (see page 30)
•
Lift the fuel tank assy., by 20 cm. (7,87 in) to access the battery
compartment.
•
Disconnect the negative lead (
•
Remove the battery from its housing and put it on a level surface in a
cool and dry place.
CAUTION
Once removed the battery must be put away in a safe place and out
of reach of children.
•
Make sure that the ignition switch is set to
•
Fit the new battery in its housing.
•
Connect the positive lead (+) first and then the negative lead (-).
•
Cover the leads and terminals with neutral grease or petroleum jelly.
•
Refit the fuel tank.

Charging the battery

•
Remove the battery.
•
Connect the battery to a battery charger.
•
It is advisable to recharge at a current of 1/10 of the battery rated
capacity.
