time. Adhere to the safety information for the correct and safe use of the unit.
Intended use
The FIAP Bio Active, in the following text termed unit, is a flow-through filter system with integrated
UVC clarifying unit for the bio-mechanical filtering of normal pond water at temperatures from + 4°C to
+ 35°C. The flow-through filter system is only suitable for private use and must exclusively be used for
cleaning garden ponds with or without fish population.
Use other than that intended
Danger to persons can emanate from this unit if it is not used in accordance with the intended use and
in the case of misuse. If used for purposes other than that intended, our warranty and operating permit
will become null and void.

Safety information
For safety reasons, children and young persons under 16 years of age as well as persons who
cannot recognise possible danger or who are not familiar with these operating instructions, are
not permitted to use the unit!
Please keep these operating instructions in a safe place! Also hand over the operating instructions
when passing the unit on to a new owner. Ensure that all work with this unit is only carried out in
accordance with these instructions.
The combination of water and electricity can lead to danger to life and limb, if the unit is incorrectly
connected or misused.
Attention! Dangerous ultra-violet radiation.
The radiation of the UVC lamp is dangerous to eyes and skin! For this reason, the unit can only be
switched on with the housing fitted (safety switch). Never operate the unit lamp outside of its housing.
Never immerse the filter in water! Always disconnect the power supply of these and all other units
located in water prior to performing work on the units! Only operate the units when plugged into an
earthed socket. The latter must have been installed in accordance with the valid national regulations.
Ensure that the protective earth wire is led to the unit. Only use cables approved for outside use. Never
use installations, adapters, extension or connection cables without protective earth contact! The cross
section of power connection cables must not be smaller than the rubber cables identified with H05
RNF. Extension cables must meet DIN VDE 0620. Ensure that the units are supplied with a rated
residual current of max. 30 mA via a residual current-operating system (FI or RCD resp.). Electrical
installations at garden ponds and swimming pools must meet the international and national regulations
valid for installers. Compare the electrical values of the power supply with those on the type plate on
the packaging or on the units. Protect the connection cable when burying to avoid damage. Protect the
plug connections and all connection points from moisture. Never operate the unit if the cable or
housing are defective! Disconnect the power! The power connection cables of these units cannot be
replaced. Replace the units (unit components) concerned if the cables are damaged. Do not carry or

pull the units by their connection cables. Never open the unit housings or their attendant components,
unless this is explicitly mentioned in the operating instructions. Never carry out technical changes to
the units. Only use original spare parts and accessories for the units. Only allow authorised customer
service outlets to perform repairs. For your own safety, consult a qualified electrician if you have
questions or encounter problems! Do not operate the units if persons are in the water! Never run the
units without water! Never use the pump for fluids other than water! Ensure that no leaks at the filter
can occur. Danger of completely emptying the pond.
Installation, assembly
Cut the stepped hose adapters such that the connection opening coincides with the hose diameter.
This helps avoid pressure loss.
Ensure that the unit is placed at a flood protected place and on firm ground. Keep a minimum distance
from the pond edge of 2 m. Ensure unrestricted access to the cover to be able to carry out work on the
unit.
Push or turn the hose onto the stepped hose adapter, secure with the hose clip, then screw the
stepped hose adapter on the water inlet.
Ensure that the drain pipes for the water return are laid towards the pond with a suitable incline (>1 %)
FIAP recommends to return the clean water into the pond via a water course to additionally enrich the
water with oxygen.
An optional adapter set is available for the cleaning outlet. For this purpose, remove the cover cap
from the cleaning outlet. Push the union nut over the hose, slide the stepped hose adapter without
thread onto the hose end and secure with the hose clip. Connect the stepped hose adapter with union
nut and flat seal to the cleaning outlet. Push the stepped hose adapter with thread onto the other hose
end, secure with the hose clip and screw on the cover cap including flat seal. Lay the hose with a
suitable incline (>1 %) towards the sewage system or to a flower bed.
Start-up
Important: Adhere to the safety information given above! Check the correct seating of hoses and
cover cap prior to starting up. Never operate the UVC clarifying unit without water.
Switch on the pump and wait until the filter housing is filled with water. Check all connections for leaks.
Connect the power plug of the UVC clarifying unit, the blue control lamp is lit. In the event of
overheating, the temperature monitor switches the UVC clarifying unit off automatically, the UCF
clarifying unit automatically switches on again once it has cooled down.
Note: After a new installation, the unit only reaches its full biological cleaning effect after a few weeks.
The full effect on bacteria is only reached as from a water temperature of + 10 °C.
Switch the UVC clarifying unit off
Disconnect the power supply to switch off the unit.
Maintenance and cleaning
Attention! Always disconnect the power plug from the UVC clarifying unit prior to starting
cleaning and maintenance work!
Adhere to the safety information given above! Check and clean the water outlet into the pond at regular
intervals. Clean the filters at regular intervals (e.g. every four weeks), however, at the latest when
cloudy or dirty water from the water outlet returns to the garden pond. Carry out quick cleaning first.
Should this prove insufficient, clean the entire unit. Never use chemical cleaning agents.
