The cables must be connected via the PROFIBUS connector, as this
contains the bus terminating resistors.
The possible PROFIBUS connectors with the different cable outputs
are illustrated in the following.

PROFIBUS connectors
The terminating resistors at the first and last nodes in the line have to
be activated because otherwise data transfer is not able to operate
satisfactorily.
The cable shield must be connected on both sides and through a large
surface area.
