T
hank you for purchasing one of the easiest
ways to apply paint. This guide will help
you setup and use your mechanically
powered roller for the first time and maintain it
for years of effective use.
®
Your Paint Mate
should come with: the main
tube, plunger, roller arm assembly, fill tube, can
lid, and splatter shield. The roller core and
cover may be pre-assembled in some units.
®
Your Paint Mate
may also come with optional
accessories.
Quick-Tips
®
The Paint Mate
uses a ratchet mechanism to
advance the plunger and keep paint supplied to
the roller. The switch on the main tube can be
set to FILL or APPLY. When the switch is set to
FILL, the ratchet is not active and the plunger
will move freely. When the switch is set to
APPLY, the ratchet is activated and the plunger
will move forward when you squeeze the
trigger.

If you are using latex
paints, we recommend
that you condition the
roller cover before you
begin painting. To do
this, run your hand or a
rag under water and then
brush it over the roller
cover. This will remove
excess fibers and make
the roller easier to
saturate with paint.
Before You Begin
It is a good idea to have drop cloths protecting
your floors and anything else in the room that
you do not want accidentally splattered with
paint. For cleanup you will want a bucket and
the appropriate cleaning solution for the type of
paint you are using. Make sure the type of
paint you use can be cleaned either with
mineral spirits or a warm water and mild soap
solution. Some oil-based paints require a
stronger cleaning solution than mineral spirits
and should not be use with the Paint Mate
Check with your paint supplier to be sure the
oil-based paint you have can be cleaned with
mineral spirits.
Assembling the Paint Mate
To attach the roller arm assembly to the main
tube:
1. Fit the roller arm assembly into the main
tube.
Make sure to align
the four guides
into the slots in
the main tube
properly. The
roller cover must
be horizontal
when filling the

2. Turn the locking
collar on the main tube counter-clockwise
until it is secure.
Using the Spatter Shield When
Painting Ceilings
The spatter shield helps catch paint which
splatters off the roller when it is being used to
paint ceilings. To attach:
1. Place the alignment knob into the center of
the roller end cap.
2. Snap the u-shaped end of the shield
securely onto the roller arm.
