ONXI2 Sizers are made with transparent "smoke" colored plastic and are designed to be
the same size as the corresponding heart valves. ONXI3 Sizers are made with a transparent
"gold" colored plastic and are slightly oversized to estimate annular size with pledgeted
sutures in place.
Instrument Handle – The instrument handle (Figure 2) facilitates holding the valve or the
rotator during surgery. The instrument handle is comprised of a grip, a bendable stem and
a tip.
The instrument handle tip is inserted into
the valve holder while the valve is still in the
package inner container. The tip is inserted
into the valve holder by placing it directly
into the slot on top of the valve holder. It
snaps into place after the application of a
light insertion force. Upon snapping into
position, the valve and the holder are firmly
retained by the instrument handle. Removal
of the valve from the inner container is
performed after the valve holder is snapped
onto the instrument handle.
The instrument handle has a bendable stem. Repeated bending of the stem may cause
metal fatigue. The effects of metal fatigue can be seen by the user in the form of readily
apparent surface cracks on the stem. To avoid instrument fracture during use, the stem
should be inspected for surface cracks before and after each time it is bent. If metal fatigue
surface cracks are present, the instrument handle should be discarded and replaced.
