• As opposed to the attached cable(s), the motor must either be connected outside an explosive atmosphere, or
be protected by an type of protection adapted to the application and the temperature class which correspond at
least to those of the location of the appliance (see the indications on the motor nameplate).
• The supply voltage and frequency must conform to those indicated on the motor nameplate.
• The tolerance is ±10% on the assigned voltage and the frequency tolerance ±1%. This means for example that
the same 400V ±10% 50Hz motor may function on the 380V ±5% or 415V ±6% 50Hz Nominal Power networks.
Consult us for any other power supply conditions.
• The choice of connecting cables is determined by the current, voltage, length, temperature, «T.cable» (if
present on the motor nameplate).
• The connection must satisfy the installation rules dictated by the standards and the application of current
regulations and must be performed under the responsibility of a qualified person who must make ensure:
- the conformity of the junction box (IP, etc.).
- the conformity of the connection to the terminal and the tightening torques.
• The screws used to connect the cables must be of the same type as the cable terminals or isolating rods (do
not connect steel screws to brass terminals, for example).
• Earthing of the main and any auxiliary motor is compulsory and must be performed in accordance with current
regulations.
• When the motor is fitted with auxiliary ventilation, this must be of a type certified by the group, the application
(D) and the temperature class must correspond at least to that of the main motor. The power supplies to the 2
motors must be connected so that the powering up of the main motor is subordinate to the powering up of the
auxiliary motor. Shutting down the auxiliary motor must also shut down the main motor. The installation must
contain a mechanism that prevents the main motor from operating if there is no ventilation.
• In S1 service, 3 successive start-ups from cold and 2 from hot are accepted for the machine. The maximum
number of start-ups within the same hour is 6. In frequent or difficult starting conditions, motors must be fitted
with thermal protection (consult us).
• The thermal probes internal to the equipment, when mandatory (ensuring that the maximum surface
temperature is never reached), must be connected to a device
• Any reheating resistances (or reheating by injection of direct current or low voltage alternating current)
must only be supplied when the motor is powered down and cold; their use is recommended for an ambient
temperature of < -20°C.
• When fitting one or more vibration sensors or accessories (pulse generator for example) these should
be connected in a box. All of these accessories (as well as the box if it is not placed outside an explosive
atmosphere) must be of a type certified by the group, the application (D) and the temperature class must
correspond at least to that of the motor. The instructions in their instruction manuals must be respected when
they are installed.
• If the motor is supplied by a separate frequency inverter placed outside the zone or used where there is an
insufficient flow of air or which may be adapted to be no longer self-ventilating or fitted with an anti-drift device, it
must be fitted with thermal sensors in the winding (all frame sizes), on the DE bearing (only for Zone 21 motors,
frame size 160 upwards), and possibly on the NDE bearing.
• When a drive is used, any special instructions detailed in the specific drive manual must be complied with.
• When several motors are supplied by the same drive, provide individual protection on each motor starter
(thermal relay).
• (F)LSPX and (F)LS zone 22: VARMECA built-in variable speed drives are preset in accordance with selection
guide ref : 3267; Any modification of the settings should be performed by a skilled operator, in conformity with
this guide. This drive has integrated thermal protection and does not require any additional thermal protection
to be integrated into the motor.

REGULAR SERVICING

• The frequency of inspections depends on the climactic and specific operating conditions and will be established after
one year of use.
• At least once every six months, drain any condensation water from the lower points of the casings by opening
and cleaning them and replacing the plugs with new seals.
• When closing the junction box, make sure that all the waterproof seals are positioned correctly and that the
screws are properly tightened in order to guarantee the IP protection level marked on the nameplate.
• Remove dust from the machine frequently from casing and the cover openings and air outputs (risk of
increased surface temperatures): clean at low pressure from the centre to the edges of the machine.
Unless prior agreement is received from the manufacturer, any intervention which may affect the safety
of the motor is performed under the responsibility of the operator. The repairs must be carried out by an
ATEX-approved repair specialist.
