To make use easier and avoid Reading mis-
takes, these instruments present the following
features:
- Diopter adjustment ring (1.5), to focus the
scale properly.
-High
(white/blue), what allows an easier and more
reliable reading, and at the same time it saves
time.
- Rubber hood: it prevents light from ente-
ring through the eyepiece during measure-
ments, and increases the luminosity of the
scale and the boundary line.
- Rubber grip (1.4): Measuring results are
influenced by temperature changes. This rub-
ber grip avoids the user's body heat to be trans-
mitted to the sample.
- Scale adjustment ring (1.3), to calibrate the
instrument.
Universal refractometer
Direct the prism towards a bright light and
adjust the diopter ring (1.11) until the scale is
focused.
By turning the polarization ring (1.9), remo-
ve the light chromaticism until a Sharp and
focused boundary line between dark and light
zones is observed.
Adjust the light inlet (1.7)
Calibration is not necessary since the equip-
ment is calibrated in origin.
Open the cover plate (1.10), clean the prism
surface with a soft fluff-free cloth and put one
or two drops of the sample to be analyzed.
Close the cover, press it slightly and read the
result (refractive index or %Brix depending on
the model) by looking through the eyepiece.
Select the most adequate scale by turning
the scale selector (1.8).
Once measurement has finished, remove the
sample with a soft cloth and wipe the prism.
Use the attached charts (annexes) to convert
Brix degrees into refractive index value, and to
correct the efect of temperature on readings.
