It is used for mid-range-concentration
samples such as concentrated fruit juices,
jams, canned products with sugar solutions,
etc. Calibration is made with a sugar solution
in distilled water at 28% (28 g of sugar in 100
mL of solution).

condensed milk, liquid caramel, very concen-
trated juices, jams, etc. Calibration is made
with a sugar solution in distilled water at
45% (28 g of sugar in 100 mL of solution).

It is specially developed for measuring the
three main indexes of honey: sugar concen-
tration, Baume degrees and water content.
Calibration is made with Monobromonaphtalene
and the test piece supplied with the instru-
ment; as follows: Place 1 or 2 drops of oil on
the bright surface of the test piece. Open the
cover plate, place the glass on the surface of
the prism and close the cover plate. Keep it
pressed so as the test piece does not slide
down; turn the adjustment screw until the
white/blue boundary line fits the reference
line. The test piece is not used for normal
measurements. Just put 1 or 2 drops of honey
on the prism, close the cover plate and loo-
king through the eyepiece read the result on
the scale.
