2.) Inspection/control of PPE ropes and regular checks
Ropes should not be used if their previous use is not known.
The equipment should be made available to its user individually.
Before each use, the user must make sure that the PSA is safe and
fully functional (2.). If there are any doubts about the safety condition
of the equipment, it must be withdrawn from use immediately.
The product must be subjected to regular checks, since the safety of
the user depends on the equipment used. Before and after each use,
the rope should be inspected for potential damage as follows (2.).
•
The seam must be covered by protective tubing or similar (2.2)
•
Check terminations, such as seams, splice, compression (2.3)
•
Run your fingers along the entire length of the core and sheath
of the rope to feel for any hidden damage (2.4)
•
Carry out a thorough visual inspection. If there are is any
visible damage to the sheath, the rope must be replaced (2.5).
•
If there are any thick sections, discolourations, burn marks,
rough spots or other unusual changes, we recommend that
the rope is replaced (2.6).
The markings must be easy to read (1.1). If the markings are no
longer legible, the product is no longer suitable for use. In particular,
the straps and ropes must be checked for cracks and cuts, and the
metal and plastic parts for deformation (2.1). The check before use
may only be skipped if the equipment is part of an emergency
equipment set and has previously been checked by a qualified
person and packed in a sealed container. Industry ropes must be
checked at least once a year by the manufacturer (see DGUV
312-906) or by a party authorised to do so by the manufacturer (2.8).
The inspection must be documented.
3.) Use:
The rope may only be used with tested and approved components.
The static rope is approved for the following applications:
•
For abseiling
•
For safety when climbing (for short fall distances (with a fall
factor under 0.3))
