held liable for any direct or indirect accident occurring as a result of use other than provided for in this notice; do not use this equipment beyond its capabilities!
USE AND PRECAUTIONS:
The descent brake in figure of 8 are designed for mountaineering activities, caving, rafting, and rescue. An inappropriate use can cause serious and even fatal
accidents. This user instruction will not teach you the techniques for using this equipment; the use of this equipment is therefore reserved for expert users. So it is
essential, to be trained in these techniques before the use.
Whatever the technique of using the descent brake: (descent, assurance of the first one on the rope,....) check during the use the good position of the connector in
the descent brake, the efforts of traction on the connector must be only done in the direction of the major axis.
To stop the fall of a person quickly and easily, grip firmly the rope and always put the hand under the descent brake.
Warning! Certain medical conditions may affect user safety. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
Check the condition of the descent brake before each use: visual inspection to check its condition, there must not be any signs of cuts, sharp edges, burns or
abnormal shrinkage, no visible damages, no deformations or oxydation that may damage the rope.
In the event of deformation or doubt, the descent brake should not be reused.
TECHNICAL DATA: Material: Aluminium. Weight: 130 g
SUITABILITY FOR USE:
Check that the devices are used in combination with other systems suitable for mountaineering, caving, rafting and rescue, and also that they are compatible,
check that they comply with the rules, standards and EU directives. In any case, we recommend that you use connectors according to the EN362 standard. Thus,
before the use, refer to the recommendations for the use of each system component.
SERVICE LIFE:
Service life of the product is 10 years (in accordance with the annual examination by a competent person authorized by Kratos Safety). It is also linked to various
factors such as frequent or incorrect use, weather conditions (humidity, frost and ice), high stress, exposure to heat, aging, exposure to chemical agents...
Your equipment will last even longer if you take care of it. We recommend, however, that you replace your equipment at least every 10 years.
VERIFICATION PROCEDURE:
For your safety, always inspect your equipment before, during and after the use, and pass it a thorough periodic inspection with qualified personnel at least every

immediately.
SERVICING AND STORAGE: (Comply strictly with these instructions)
During transport, keep the equipment away from cutting part and keep it in its packaging. Clean with soap and water, wipe with a dry cloth and hang in a
ventilated area to dry naturally away from any direct heat or source of heat, even for items that got wet during their use. Bleach and detergents are strictly
prohibited. The equipment should be stored in a temperate and dry place in its packaging, away from sunlight, heat and chemicals.
Descent :
The descent brake in figure of 8, must only be used during the descents in double rope
techniques, according the figure hereunder:
It is necessary to attach oneself preventively to the descent rope by the intermediate of a self-
locking knot (Prussik).
Check that the self-locking knot does not enter in contact with the descent brake when it will be in
tension, otherwise it will not lock onto the rope.
The lowering speed on double rope must be moderated to avoid an overheating of the descent
brake, which would cause a rapid wear of both descent brake and rope.
In assurance:
The descent brake in figure of 8 can be used in simple rope for the retrieve of the second climber,
or for the assurance of the first one (see figure hereunder). Be careful, in this case the braking
action developed by the descent brake is strictly related to the diameter and type of the rope used.
Check the efficiency of your operation before the use and in safe place when you are using new,
thin or very slippery ropes.
It is forbidden to make the assurance with 2 ropes since only the rope which enters into the throat
of the descent brake would be braked.
For the recovering of the second climber on the rope, it is necessary to have an extension as shown
in the figure here on the left.
Make sure that you always secure the end of the rope in order to prevent the risk that its end
involuntarily comes out of the descent brake and thus prevent serious injury or death.
NEVER USE METALLIC ROPE WITH THE DESCENT BRAKE
