MAINTENANCE
This shaper requires very little maintenance
other than minor lubrication and cleaning. The
following sections detail what will need to be
done in order to assure continued operation of
your shaper.
LUBRICATION
The shaper has sealed lubricated bearings in
the motor housing and the arbor assembly that
do not require any additional lubrication from
the operator.
CLEANING
Keep the inside of the cabinet clear of
saw dust and wood chips. With the shaper
unplugged,vacuum out the inside of the cabi-
net or blow out the inside with an air hose. Be
sure to use air pressure no higher than 50 P.S.I.
as high pressure air may damage insulation.
WARNING: Be sure to wear protective eye
wear and dust mask when cleaning out the
cabinet of the shaper.
TROUBLESHOOTING
This section covers the most common process-
ing problems encountered what to do about
them. Do not make any more adjustments
until the shaper is unplugged from the power
source and moving parts have come to a com-
plete stop.
Shaper will not start.
Cord unplugged from the power source. Plug
in power cord.
Fuse blown or circuited breaker tripped. Re-
place fuse or reset circuit breaker.
Cord damaged. Replace cord.
Reversing switch is in the Off position. Turn
switch to forward of reverse.
Overload tripped. Reset overload by depress-
ing red stop button.
Cabinet door is open. Close cabinet door.
Overload kicks out frequently.
Extension cord or wiring inadequate size. Re-
place cord or wiring with proper gauge wire.
Feeding stock too fast. Reduce feed stock rate.
Cutter needs cleaning or replacing. Clean or
replace cutter.

Cuts are unsatisfactory.
Dull cutter. Replace cutter.
Cutterhead rotating in wrong direction. Check
for proper rotation at startup.
Feeding work in wrong direction. Feed work
against the cutter rotation.
Gum or pitch on cutter. Remove cutter and
clean with solvent.
Gum or pitch on table causing erratic feed.
Clean table with solvent.
Cutter does not come up to full speed.
Shop wire gauge is too small. Replace wiring
with proper gauge wire.
Extension cord or wiring inadequate size. Re-
place wit adequate size cord.
Power source is not adequate. Contact your
electric utility.
Motor not wired for correct voltage. Refer to
motor name place and wiring diagram for cor-
rect wiring.
Spindle is locked with mandrel lever. Unlock
spindle, see label next to lower on base.
Machine vibrates.
Stand on uneven surface. Stand must rest sol-
idly on level surface. Fasten to floor if neces-
sary.
Cutterhead damaged. Replace cutterhead.
Defective V-belt. Replace V-belt.
V-belt incorrectly tensioned. Apply proper ten-
sion.
Bent pulley. Replace pulley.
Motor mounted improperly. Motor must be
properly mounted with snug nuts and bolts.
Edge splits off on cross grain cut.
Characteristic of this type of cut. Make cross
grain cuts first, then finish cut with the grain.
Use scrap block to support end of cut.
Raised areas on shaped edge.
Variation of pressure holding work against
cutter. Hold work firmly against table and
fence. Use hold-downs and push sticks.
Work pulled from hand.
Feeding in wrong direction. Always feed work
against the rotation of the cutterhead.
Depth of cut not uniform.
