TROUBLESHOOTING
Before asking for repairs, conduct your own inspection first. If you find a problem that is not explained in the manual,
do not attempt to dismantle the tool. Instead, ask Makita Authorized Service Centers, always using Makita replace-
ment parts for repairs.
State of abnormality
Engine does not start.
Engine stops soon.
Engine speed does not increase.
Throttle does not return to idling
speed.
Engine does not stop.
Run engine at idling, and set
choke lever to "CLOSE".
Probable cause (malfunction)
Failure to operate primer pump.
Low pulling speed of starter rope.
Lack of fuel.
Clogged fuel filter.
Bent fuel tube.
Deteriorated fuel.
Excessive suction of fuel.
Detached plug cap.
Contaminated spark plug.
Abnormal clearance of spark plug.
Other abnormality of spark plug.
Abnormal carburetor.
Cannot pull the starter knob.
Engine internal parts problem.
Insufficient warm-up.
Choke lever is set to "CLOSE" although
engine is warmed up.
Clogged fuel filter.
Contaminated or clogged air cleaner.
Detached control cable.
Engine internal parts problem.
Inproper throttle valve position.
Detached connector.
Abnormal electric system.

Remedy
Push 7 to 10 times.
Pull strongly.
Feed fuel.
Clean the fuel filter or replace with new one.
Straighten the fuel tube.
Deteriorated fuel makes starting more difficult.
Replace with new one. (Recommended replace-
ment: 1 month)
Set throttle lever from medium speed to high speed,
and pull starter handle until engine starts. If engine
will not start still, remove spark plug, make electrode
dry, and reassemble them as they originally are.
Then, start as specified.
Attach securely.
Clean the spark plug.
Adjust clearance.
Replace the spark plug.
Ask our authorized service center to inspect and
repair it.

Perform warm-up operation.
Set to "OPEN".
Clean the fuel filter.
Clean the air filter.
Attach the control cable securely.

adjusting bolt.
Attach the connector securely.
Ask our authorized service center to inspect and
repair it.
