► If you route the wire between obstacles higher than 0.8 in.
(2 cm), e.g. walls or hedges, keep a minimum wire
clearance of b = 8.7 in. (22 cm).
► If you route the wire between obstacles lower than 0.8 in.
(2 cm), e.g. paths or patios, keep a minimum wire
clearance of c = 17.4 in. (44 cm).
► Block off narrower areas in which a < 34.6 in. (88 cm)
through appropriate routing of the perimeter wire.
► If you route the perimeter wire in a confined area,
deactivate the offset drive home function, @ 15.3.

11.5 Routing Around Restricted Areas

A restricted area is an area that the robotic mower must
avoid, including obstacles that cannot be mowed or objects
that the mower can't bump off of to change direction, such
as flower beds, trees with buttressed roots, etc.
► Install a restricted area around such obstacles.

► Keep a minimum clearance of a = 17.4 in. (44 cm)
between the perimeter wire routed around a restricted
area and the perimeter wire at the edge of the mowing
area.
► Keep a minimum clearance within a radius of at least
b = 6.6 ft. (2 m) around the docking station (1).

► Route the perimeter wire from the edge to the obstacle
with the proper clearance.
► Route the perimeter wire around the obstacle (2) and
attach it to the ground using a sufficient number of wire
stakes (3).
► Then route the perimeter wire back to the edge again. The
segment of perimeter wire routed back to the edge (4)
must be laid directly next to the segment leading to the
restricted area. When the wire is laid side-by-side, the
signal is canceled and the iMow will ignore this section of
perimeter wire and mow directly over it. If the wires are
separated, however, the iMow will not traverse the wire
and the area between the two segments of perimeter wire
will not be mowed.
► After routing the perimeter wire back to the edge, do not
cross the sections of the perimeter wire. Continue the
installation around the perimeter of the mowing area. The
perimeter wire must exit the restricted area in the direction
opposite to the direction in which it entered the restricted
area, @ 11.9.
► If you route the perimeter wire around very small
obstacles, e.g. around an individual tree, keep a minimum
clearance of at least c = 9.5 in. (24 cm, clearance
C = A + D on the iMow Ruler).
