6.2 Lifting straps similar to or
based on EN 14921
If the requirements of EN 1492-1 are not met or if the
product deviates from them, the specification "similar to
EN 1492-1" or "based on EN 1492-1" is shown on the
label. Deviations can be (for example):
• Working load limit outside the specifications
according to EN 1492-1 Table 3, e. g. 1.5 t
• Strap colour deviates from the colour code according
to EN 1492-1 Table 3, e. g. white, black, pink,
light blue, etc.
• Less than the minimum thickness of 2 mm (single-
layer)/1.2 mm (multi-layer)
• Harness strap fabric without follow-up treatment
(uncoated and/or without thermo-stabilisation)
• Fittings that are firmly sewn into the lifting strap and have
a different marking to that specified in EN 1677

• Single choker hitch rigging method:
The loop lifting strap is wrapped around the load so that
one loop is pulled through the other and the free loop is
hooked into the load lifting device. The strap can be
wrapped once or twice around the load.
In choker hitch, the working load limit is only 80 % of
the actual working load limit. This is also depicted on
the label (see Chapter 6.4).
Fig. 5: single tied
„Double choker hitch" means that the strap is wrapped
twice around the load and then pulled through the
counter loop.

• Singlewrapped/basket hitch rigging method:
In the single-wrapped rigging method, also called basket
hitch, the attachment device is wrapped once in a U-shape
around the load. The free ends are guided upwards and
hooked into crane hook or load lifting device; i. e. the load
rests only in the attachment device.
To double the working load limit, the angle of inclination ß
must not exceed 6°.
