TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
Possible Cause
Motor will not run
Fuse is blown or circuit breaker tripped
Motor runs hot
Voltage is too low
and overload
kicks off or
motor does not
run and only hums
*Pump does not
1.Water being pumped is lower than estimated
deliver water to
full capacity
2.Corroded pipes or hoses
3. Piping is too small in size
4. Pump not being supplied with enough water
Motor runs but no
1.Pump during new installation did not pick up
water is delivered*
prime through:
(Note: Stop pump;
a. Improper priming
then check prime
b. Air leaks
before looking for
other causes.
c. Leaking foot valve
Unscrew priming
d. Pipe size too small
plug and see if
water is in priming
hole).
2.Pump has lost prime through:
a. Air leaks
b. Water level below suction pipe inlet
3. Impeller is plugged
4. Foot valve is stuck shut
5. Pipes are frozen
6.Foot valve and/or strainer are buried in sand or
mud
Corrective Action
DISCONNECT POWER; Replace fuse or reset
circuit breaker
Check voltage being supplied to pump
1. A deep well jet will be needed if your well is
more than 25' (7.6M) depth to water
2. Replace with plastic or new steel pipe
3. Re-pipe using pipe the same size as suction
and discharge ports on pump
4. Inlet pipe is too small
1. In new installation:
a. Re-prime according to instructions
b. Check all connections on suction line, with
soapy water or shaving cream
c. Replace foot valve
d. Re-pipe using pipe the same size as of
suction and discharge ports on pump
2.In installation already in use:
a. Check all connections on suction line and
shaft seal with soapy water.
b. Lower suction line into water and re-prime. If
the water level is more than 25' (7.6M) below
the pump, a deep well pump is needed
3. Clean impeller
4. Replace the foot valve
5. Thaw pipes
6. Raise foot valve and/or strainer above
bottom of water source, clean foot valve and
strainer
