BATTERY CONNECTION

• Before connecting and disconnecting the charging pliers, the charger must be
switched off or the mains plug disconnected from the socket.
Do not let the loading tongs touch each other.
CAUTION: A spark near the battery can cause a battery explosion:
Sparking near the battery is avoided by paying attention to the following points:
Connecting the charger to a vehicle-mounted battery:
• Place the AC and DC cables in a position that eliminates the risk of damage from
the bonnet, door, or moving engine parts.
• Check the polarity of the battery poles. The POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery pole
has usually a larger diameter than the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -).
• Determine which pole is grounded (connected to the chassis). Normally the
negative pole is grounded.
• Charging a battery grounded to the negative terminal: Connect the red wire to the
positive terminal of the battery and the black wire to the chassis of the vehicle.
Please ensure that the black cable is not connected near the battery, carburettor,
fuel lines or other sheet metal parts.
• Charging a battery grounded to the positive pole: Connect the black cable to the
negative terminal of the battery and the red cable to the chassis of the vehicle.
Please make sure that the red wire is not connected near the battery, carburetor,
fuel lines or other sheet metal parts.
• Before disconnecting the charging clamps from the battery terminals, switch off the
charger and remove the power cord.
Connecting the charger to a non-vehicle battery:
• Check the polarity of the battery poles. The POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery pole
has usually a larger diameter than the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -).
• Connect the red cable to the positive pole of the battery and the black cable to the
negative pole. If the battery cables are connected incorrectly, a protection circuit
prevents neither the charger nor the battery from being damaged.
• When switching off the charger, always proceed in the opposite order to the
connection.
