How to reduce fire hazard
• D o not leave flammable materials exposed.
• O pen fires (e.g. fireplaces and ovens) are particular
safety hazards. Use a metal grille to protect yourself
from flying sparks. Use a fire-resistant glass floor plate
if there is wooden flooring or carpets. Clean chimneys
regularly. Never dispose of hot ash in the dustbin.
• K eep a close eye on the power supply. Overloading of
cables will generate an uncontrollable build-up of heat
in the walls of the building.
• E ducate your children about fire and the dangers it
poses. "Playing with fire" has often been the cause of
open, uncontrollable house fires.
• E nsure that your heating system is serviced regularly.
• O nly use approved and certified products.
• D o not smoke in bed.
