the detector. If so, review the position of the device and,
if necessary, relocate the detector or remove the objects
in question.
The detector continuously carries out an automatic
self-test. Amongst other things, this is used to test the
electronics, the voltage and the internal resistance of
the battery, smoke chamber operation, etc. The red LED
(Fig. 5.1) will flash briefly approx. every 35 seconds to
indicate that the device is working correctly and that it is
ready for use. In line with the DIN 14676 standard, the
smoke detector must be replaced if the device is subject
to mechanical damage or if the fault indication cannot
be reset and, in any event, no later than 10 years and 6
months after the device has been commissioned.

• T he detector may trigger the alarm if the device
is exposed to excessive amounts of dust or
steam, for example.
How to act in the event of fire
N.B.
• T his product is suitable for use in residential
and commercial buildings. Please determine
possible evacuations plans and escape routes
well in advance. Regularly carry out fire drills
with other residents, and particularly your
children, to practise fire-safety procedures and

responsibilities and to ensure that all residents
know how to react if the alarm is triggered and
how they can help visitors if necessary.
We recommend that you use the detector's test signal for
these fire drills to simulate the "practice alarm".

• I t is also a good idea to prepare an alternative
route in the event that the main escape route is
obstructed.
In the event of fire
• Y ou must stop whatever you are doing and leave the
building at once. Help children and any residents with
physical disabilities!
• D o not open any doors that feel hot. Use an alternative
escape route in these circumstances. The general rule
is that the last one out closes the door, so close the
door behind you.
• K eep close to the ground as you move if there is a large
amount of smoke.
• T ake shallow breaths. You can also practise this in
advance. The fire service and other ancillary services
can provide information on this.
• C heck that all residents and visitors are present, by
ensuring that all those involved proceed to a specified
and agreed meeting point.
