1.1.4 Hazardous procedures

In addition to other procedures described in this manual as hazardous, the user's personnel must observe the
following: as hazardous, the user's personnel must observe the following:
1. Always work with the equipment disconnected from the power supply. Before performing any test, maintenance or repair.
2. Always allow an interlocking device or safety mechanism to perform its function without forcing or overriding the device.

1.2 CAUTION

CAUTION!
Failure to comply with the directions could result in minor or moderate injury or property damage.
1. Be sure to tighten the terminal screws to the torque specified in the instruction manual.
2. Do not install in areas subject to high temperature, high humidity, dust, corrosive gases, vibrations and shocks.
Failure to do so may result in malfunction or fire.
3. In order to enable the ABW Compact to trip automatically, always eliminate the source of the malfunction before
closing the ABW Compact again. Failure to do so may result in fire.
4. The power terminal screws should be checked and tightened periodically. Failure to do so may result in fire.
5. Use the ABW Compact at 50/60Hz. Failure to do so may result in malfunction or fire.

1.3 DANGER

DANGER!
Failure to comply with the directions could result in serious injury and even death.

1.3.1 Risk of personal injury or equipment damage

1. Only qualified electricians with training and experience in high voltage circuits should perform the work described
in this instruction set. These workers must understand the risks involved in working with or near high voltage
equipment. This job must only be performed after reading this complete instructions set.
2. The successful operation of the ABW Compact depends on proper handling, installation, operation and
maintenance. Neglecting fundamental installation and maintenance requirements may lead to personal injury
and damage to the electrical equipment or other property.
3. The ABW Compact has features designed to prevent unsafe operation, but such features do not eliminate all risks.
Therefore, the person using this device is responsible for recognizing the potential hazards, wearing protective
equipment and taking appropriate safety precautions.
4. Do not make any adjustments to the equipment or operate the system with the safety features removed. Contact
your local WEG representative for additional instructions if the ABW Compact does not function as described
in this manual.
5. Disconnect all sources of electrical power before performing visual inspections, tests, or maintenance on this
device. Assume that all circuits are energized until they have been completely de-energized, tested, grounded
and connected. Pay special attention to the design of the electrical system. Consider all power sources, including
the possibility of feedback.
6. Before replacing the covers or closing the doors, carefully inspect the bus work area for tools and objects left
inside the equipment. Be careful when removing or installing panels so that they do not touch the live bus.
7. Before making any electrical connections, take every precaution to make sure that all connections are de-energized
and grounded.
8. Inserting foreign objects into this equipment may cause a short circuit, which could lead to serious damages,
personal injury or death. Short circuits can release large amounts of energy due to the rapid expansion of
overheated ionized gases. The products of such instant expansion may quickly involve and burn personnel
before preventive actions can be taken. The short-circuit source may cause other injuries by throwing personnel
or objects over a long distance from the equipment. Some foreign objects that may cause short circuits are tools,
test leads and instruments not designed for high-voltage circuits, wires and other conductive or semiconductor
materials. Workers should also be careful to keep clothing and body parts off the equipment. Failure to observe
these precautions could result in serious personal injury or death.
