Please verify that the scope of delivery is complete. Depending on the purpose of the application, additional
accessories may be necessary (please refer to the chapters titled "Installation", "Automation with special
accessories" and "How to order spare parts").
If possible, keep the packing until the warranty period has expired. Please dispose of the packing materials in an
environmental-friendly manner.
5. Installation
5.1.
General installation information
During the entire process of installation, the device must not be connected to the electrical
mains.
The pump and the entire connection system have to be protected from frost.
All connection lines have to be perfectly tight. Any leaking lines may affect the
performance of the pump and lead to considerable damage.
All connection lines have to be perfectly tight since leaking lines may affect the performance of the pump and
cause considerable damage. Therefore, please use Teflon tape to seal the contact surfaces between the
threaded sections of the lines and the connection with the pump. This use of sealing material such as Teflon tape
is the only way to ensure an airtight assembly.
Avoid when tightening screw excessive force that may cause damage. Please observe the illustrations, too, which
are contained as an attachment at the end of the present operating instructions. The numeric and other details
included in brackets below refer to these illustrations.
5.2.
Installation of the intake line
The inlet of the intake line should be equipped with an intake filter or strainer in order to keep
away larger-sized dirt particles which might clog or even damage the pump
The intake line (2) conveys the liquid to be discharged to the pump. The suction hose to be used for the intake
line should be a flexible one, suitable for the specific purpose and with the same diameter as the suction port (1)
of the pump. The inlet of the intake line should be equipped with an intake filter or strainer in order to keep away
larger-sized dirt particles which might clog or even damage the pump. Moreover, it is highly recommended to
install a check valve (non-return valve) which prevents the pressure from escaping after the pump has cut out.
The standard equipment of the models 30156, 30164 and 30196 includes a high-quality intake kit. This kit
consists of a specially made suction hose (3) serving as an intake line, an efficient check valve with an intake filter
(4) plus a highly efficient float (5).
The suction hose usually comes with the check valve plus intake filter and the connection piece (6) for the suction
port of the pump already pre-mounted. Should this not be the case, this assembly can be made with very little
effort. To start, insert the intake filter with the check valve in one end of the suction hose. Please fasten it with one
of the enclosed pipe clamps by tightening the screw with a screwdriver. Subsequently, insert the connection piece
for the suction port of the pump into the other end of the suction hose. In this process, please make sure that the
union nut is in place which you will need for subsequently fastening the suction hose to the pump. To fasten the
connection piece, please use another one of the enclosed clamps.
Fastening the suction hose to the pump requires the use of the enclosed double nipple which is to be screwed
into the suction port of the pump. To seal the connection, please use Teflon tape or another suitable sealant.
Next, fasten the connection piece of the suction hose to the double nipple by tightening the union nut.
To conclude, please attach the float to the suction hose using the eye (7) at the intake filter in which you can hook
in the spring (8) of the float. As a result of the buoyancy of the properly connected float the inlet of the intake line
will always have a sufficient distance from the ground to prevent stones, plants, leaves etc. from being sucked in.
5.3.
Installation of the pressure line
The pressure line conveys the liquids to be discharged from the pump to the point of withdrawal. To avoid
dynamic flow losses, one should use a pressure line having at least the same diameter as the
pressure port of the pump.
To protect the pump from damage caused by pressure surges it is advisable to equip the pressure line
with a check valve to be installed directly downstream the pump outlet.
A flexible hose is ideally suited for use as a pressure line. If a pipe line is used instead, it has to be connected to
the pressure port by a flexible hose of a minimum length of 2 m. This will avoid damage to the pump housing
caused by vibration. When only one single pump is in operation the hose - or pipe line, as the case may be - has
to resist to a pressure of at least 6 bars. Attach the pressure line to the pressure port (9) of the pump.
5.4.
Properties and installation of the lowering rope
The pump must only be lowered or raised using a suitable lowering rope, please do never use
the pressure hose or the connection cable for this purpose.
