2. Definitions and symbols

2.1. Definitions
'User': Person  or  department  responsible  for  the 
management  and  safe  use  of  the  product  described 
in the manual.
'Technician': Qualified  person  in  charge  of  the 
maintenance  operations  described  and  permitted  by 
the  user manual,  who  is competent and familiar with 
the product.
'Operator': Operational person using the equipment in 
accordance with the purpose thereof.
'PPE': Personal  protective  equipment  against  falls 
from height.
'Connector: 
components of a fall arrest system. It is compliant with 
standard EN 362.
'Fall arrest harness': A  body  gripper  intended  to 
arrest  falls.  It  consists  of  straps  and  buckles.  It 
includes fall arrest attachment points marked with an A 
if they can be used alone, or marked with a A/2 if they 
are to be used in combination with another A/2 point. 
The equipment is compliant with standard EN 361.
' Belt ': Body gripper device circling the waist.
'Work position securing lanyard': Component used 
to link a belt to an anchor point, to a structure or to a 
body gripper, so as to create a support.
'Work position support':  Technique  enabling  a 
person to be secured, during their work, by tensioned 
personal protection equipment, so as to prevent a fall.
'Arrest':  Technique  enabling,  through  personal 
protection  equipment,  to  prevent  a  person  reaching 
fall hazard areas.
'Maximum working load': Maximum  weight  of  the 
fully  dressed  operator,  equipped  with  their  PPE, 
working coveralls, tools and components required for 
their work.
'Fall arrest system: Assembly  made  up  of  the 
following components:
– Fall arrest harness.
– Automatic recoil fall arrester or shock absorber or 
mobile fall arrester or rigid support rail or mobile 
fall arrester in flexible support.
– Anchoring.
– Connecting component.
'Fall arrest system component': This  generic  term 
defines any one of the following items:
– Fall arrest harness.
– Automatic recoil fall arrester or shock absorber or

Connecting 
element 
mobile fall arrester or rigid support rail or mobile 
fall arrester in flexible support.
– Anchoring.
– Connecting component.
2.2. Pictograms
DANGER: Placed at the beginning of the line, 
indicates  instructions  to  avoid  injury  to  people, 
including  mortal,  serious  or  light  injuries,  as  well  as 
harm to the environment.
IMPORTANT: Placed at the beginning of the line, 
indicates  instructions  to  avoid  failure  or  damage  to 
equipment, that does not however place the operator 
or anybody else's life or health in danger and/or cause 
harm to the environment.

NOTE:  Placed  at  the  beginning  of  the  line, 
indicates  instructions  to  ensure  the  efficiency  or 
appropriateness of an installation, a usage or a
maintenance operation.
Verification before use:
Check:
• that  the  connectors,  the  reducer  and  the  work 
position securing lanyard length adjustment system 
are working correctly and are not deformed..
• that there is no trace of rust,
• the  general  condition  of  the  lanyard  and  the 
protective sleeve,
• that  the  work  position  securing  lanyard  shows  no 
sign  of  abrasion  on  the  rope,  and  that  the  seams 
are not cut.

4. Functions and description

Usage recommendations:
• The  work  position  securing  lanyard  is  support 
equipment, and not a fall arrest system as per
EN  358.  This  equipment  can  only  be  used  by  one 
person, equipped with a work position support belt..
• The  work  position  securing  lanyard  should  only  be 
used for the protection of people supported at their 
workstation or anchored.
• The  work  position  securing  lanyard  should  be 
connected  to  an  anchor  point,  with  R  resistance  of 
12°kN or more.
• The  maximum  working  load  of  the  work  position 
securing  lanyard  is  150 kg.  It  is  very  important, 
before any usage, to check that all the components 
of  the  fall  arrest  system  are  compatible  with
