6.2. Installation surface
Before installing the guard trac™ or guard trac™
plus guardrail, the installer must ensure that the
installation surface of the flat roof meets the fol-
lowing requirements:
• Only one guard trac™ or guard trac™ plus
guardrail should be installed per 3 sq. m of
installation surface.
• The installation area must be greater than
3 sq. m.
• The installation area must be secured either
mechanically or bonded.
• If the installation surface is mechanically
fixed, the number of attachment points must
be at least 4 per m².
• If the installation surface is bonded, bonding
must be done in accordance with EN 12317-2.
DANGER: the installer must check be-
fore installation that the tilt of the guard
trac™ or guard trac™ plus guardrail
must not be more than 10° from the horizontal
(fig. 12). They must also check that the roof seal-
ant is bitumen, PVC or EPDM. If the installation
will be placed on another surface material,
please seek approval from Tractel first.
DANGER: When installing the guard
trac™ or guard trac™ plus guardrail the
installer must ensure that the installation
surface does not pose a risk of water accumula-
tion in the event of rain.
6.3. Thermal insulation
The 25 kg concrete counterweight generates a
pressure on the roof according to the table in
section 6.1. This pressure is generally accept-
able compared to the compressive strength
values reported by the thermal insulation
manufacturer for a 2% deformation over time.
However, before installation, the installer must
ensure that:
•
The value of compressive strength indi-
cated by the manufacturer of the thermal
insulation for 2% long term deformation is
at least 20 kPa.
•
The surface on which the guardrails are in-
stalled should deform evenly under load.
DANGER: The presence of a lack of uni-
formity in deformation of the thermal in-
sulation could lead to a malfunction of
the guard trac™ or guard trac™ plus guardrail
when an operator falls. This defect could also
lead to the deterioration of the roof sealant when
an operator falls.
7. Installation
7.1. Provisions prior to installation
1. The guard trac™ or guard trac™ plus guard-
rail must be installed by a competent per-
son or under the supervision of a competent
person.
2. The installation and use of the guard trac™
or guard trac™ plus guardrail must be in
compliance with the country's laws and reg-
ulations.
3. In case of doubt, the installer must check the
preliminary study file (Section 6).
7.2. Before installation, check:
1. The absence of significant damage, defor-
mation or corrosion to any component of the
system and the presence and legibility of all
markings.
2. If installing previously used guard trac™ or
guard trac™ plus guardrail, that it has been
inspected during the past 12 months.
DANGER: In the event of an anomaly
noted during these checks, the guard
trac™ or guard trac™ plus guardrail
must be put out of service to prevent any acci-
dent. The damaged part(s) must be replaced by
parts supplied by Tractel
7.3. Installation of the guard trac™
and guard trac™ t-b guardrail
The installer should proceed as follows:
Step 1:
Clear the installation surface on which the guard
trac™ or guard trac™ plus guardrail is to be in-
stalled.
Step 2:
Clean the cleared area using appropriate re-
sources. After cleaning, the surface must be free
.
