Inspection
NOTE: The anchorage connector and all components of a fall arrest system should be
inspected before each use according to the instructions supplied with the product at the
time of shipment.
Perform the following procedures if applicable to your product:
1
VISUAL INSPECTION FOR ALL ANCHORAGE CONNECTORS
Inspect overall product for any of the following: misaligned, bent, cracked, distorted,
worn, malfunctioning or damaged parts; loose fasteners or missing parts/components;
deterioration; corrosion; signs that indicate the product has been subjected to a fall arrest; or
any other indications of damage/problems that may affect the integrity and operation of the
product. If in doubt, contact the manufacturer.
Materials/Fibers (Webbing, Tubing, Wire Rope/Cable, etc.)
When inspecting various materials/fibers used in the construction of anchorage
connectors, be sure to inspect each section, rotating and flexing, to reveal any damage,
cuts, broken strands/fibers, pulled stitches, kinks, frayed edges, burns, chemical damage,
unusual wearing patterns, or other signs of deterioration.
2
FUNCTION INSPECTION FOR ALL ANCHORAGE CONNECTORS
Ensure that the product and all its components function properly and only as intended by
the manufacturer. If in doubt, contact the manufacturer.
Carabiners
The keeper/gate should seat into the nose without binding and should not be distorted
or obstructed. The keeper/gate spring should exert sufficient force to firmly close the
keeper/gate. Locks must prevent the keeper/gate from opening when the keeper/gate
closes.
470 Hook Anchor
The hook portion of the device must pass completely through the corresponding loops on
the product.
475 Extension Pole & Hook
Check spring action to ensure proper closing of the hook.
8183 Cross Arm Strap/8185C Disposable Concrete Anchor Strap
D-rings should pivot freely.
8816-14 ShadowLite Beam Anchor
Confirm proper operation/engagement of the ratchet mechanism by sliding the adjustable
foot back and forth a few times and noting the proper operation of the ratchet release
button. The button is spring-loaded and should engage each successive ratchet pocket
positively and securely. Dirt and debris that has become lodged in the ratchet slots of
the support shaft or under the ratchet release button, will prevent safe operation of the
unit. Failure of the ratchet button spring will render the unit UNSAFE FOR USE!
496 Grip Anchorage Connector
Make sure metal spoons and conical end fitting operate smoothly and no metal burrs
have occurred.
51 Tripod
Ensure that leg locks engage properly.
