3. Special Care and Maintenance

Spindle cleaning:
• Viscosimeters main maintenance is the spindle cleaning.
• Please clean carefully all the sample rests from the spindle.
• Handle the spindle with care in order not to bend them.
• Keep the spindle and the motor shaft threads clean.
• When changing the fluid, you must clean the spindle and its protector.
Motor shaft:
• The viscosimeter motor shaft is a high precision piece, very sensitive to shock and
overexertion. That's the reason why it has a protective cap.
• Assemble and dismantle the spindle carefully. The motor shaft is a very delicate
part.
• Pleas protect the motor shaft when it's not in use.
• Do not let the spindle assembled when it's not in use.
Spindle assembly:
• When assembling the spindle to the motor shaft, block the shaft by pressing it
upwards before screwing the spindle. This prevents damages to the motor shaft.
• The spindle is screwed left (the other way round a «normal» thread).
• It's not necessary to «hold tight» the spindle to the motor shaft.
• Do not use any tool to «tighten» the spindle to the motor shaft.
• Do not use other viscosimeters spindles.
• When changing the spindle, remember to select it in the viscosimeter.
• Once the spindle is installed in the viscosimeter, do not turn it manually.
• Once the spindle is assembled, do not lie the viscosimeter down.
General:
• To turn the knob upwards and downwards, hold the viscosimeter with the other
hand.
• Ambient temperature affects the viscosimeter measurement a lot.
