Viscosity calibration
Select «Viscosity» in Fig 6.8 to start the viscosity calibration.
Menu in Fig 6.9 will be shown, to select the spindle and the exact value (the measurement
temperature) of standard oil viscosity.
See table 6.1 to know the appropriate standard oil for every spindle.
Note: The spindle list shown by the viscosimeter depends on the model.
Place the spindle to calibrate in the standard oil and enter the stabilization time before
the viscosimeter takes the standard measurement.
Accept the calibration with «ENTER».
Calibration can be interrupted any time by pressing «QUIT».
If calibration is interrupted, please do a «RESET».
Temperature cali bration
Check with a standard thermometer the difference between the temperatures indicated
by the viscosimeter and the thermometer. If it is unacceptable, please contact J.P.
SELECTA's technical service to know how to adjust the equipment.
6.4 Time and Date Set-up
Select «Date / Time», see Fig 6.4 and follow the instructions given by the equipment to
enter time and date.
7. Viscosity Measure
To correctly measure viscosity, you must use the suitable material, control the ambient
temperature and select the correct measurement scale.
7.1 Sample preparation
The liquid must be placed in a 600ml «Low Form» beaker.
You need 500ml of sample.
Place the beaker under the viscosimeter and move the main unit down till the spindle
mark arrives to the liquid level. See Fig. 7.1.
7.2 Select the correct End of Scale (EoS)
Any combination spindle / speed (rpm) establishes a viscosimeter measurement
ran ge .
Spindle effect on End of Scale (EoS):
Big spindles, numbers 1 and 2, are used to measure low viscosity values.
Small spindles, numbers 3 and 4, are used to measure high viscosity values.
Speed effect (rpm) on End of Scale (EoS):
High speed is used to measure low viscosity values.
Low speed is used to measure high viscosity values.
Bearing in mind these effects, any combination speed / spindle has a different End
of Scale (EoS)
When selecting a speed and a spindle, the display shows the End of Scale (EoS)
For instance (See table on ANNEX):
Combination:
and combination: spindle = L4; 10 rpm has an EoS = 60.000cP
