8.3 Rail pressure sensor comparative test
- Connect the diagnostic tester to the vehicle's diagnostic port.
- From the diagnostic tester program select actual rail pressure/sensor pressure.
- Run the engine at various speeds (either by way of the test program or by pressing the
accelerator).
Note:
The start phase will be longer, as the hose first needs to be charged!
- Observe both pressure readouts during the start phase.
Evaluating the pressure readouts:
- Actual rail pressure on diagnostic tester:
Permissible variation from pressure readout on
pressure pickup:
- Actual rail pressure on diagnostic tester:
Permissible variation from pressure
readout on pressure pickup:
If the permissible variation is exceeded, replace the vehicle's rail pressure sensor.
If everything is OK and the fault has still not been eliminated, follow the further procedure as set
out in the vehicle-specific troubleshooting guide.
8.4 Removing the pressure pickup
- Ignition SWITCHED OFF!
Pressure gage indicating zero pressure!
- Detach the hose from the rail.
- Remove the pressure pickup module and the gage.
- Attach a new high pressure line to the rail and the injector.
Follow the manufacturer's assembly instructions and apply the specified tightening torque!
- Run the engine and check the lines for leaks.
- After running a test drive make a visual check for leaks.
