bottom of the lower tube when you take the shaft bolts off. Use the oil pan to
catch the oil.
7. Slide off one-piece lower tube assembly (see Fig. 7), oil will continue to drain
from the upper tubes. Remove fork boots from Judy C, XC or XLC forks.
8. Clean upper tubes and inspect for wear and/or damage (nicks, scratches, or
dings).
9. Clean fork boots (Judy C, XC and XLC forks only) and slide onto upper tubes.
10. Pour any left over oil out from lower tubes. Then clean internals of lower
tubes, bushings (two per leg), and Resi-wiper seal. A long 3/8" drive socket
extension wrapped in a lint-free rag works well.

11. Apply New and Improved Judy Butter to the surface of the four bushings, the
inside of the lower tubes and fill the pocket between the lips of the Resi-wiper
seal completely. Use a socket extension wrapped with cloth tape dipped in
Judy Butter to reach inside the lower tubes (see Fig. 8).

12. Remove damper assemblies from upper
tubes using small tip internal snap ring
pliers, note orientation of all parts, The
right damper rod includes a plunger rod,
glide ring, top-out spring, spring retainer,
piston and shuttle valves and wavy
washers; the left leg includes a plunger,
top-out spring, spring retainer, glide ring
(XC, 100 and XL only) and piston (See
Fig. 9 and 10).
13. Completely drain the oil from the
damper/plunger assemblies. Inspect for
wear or damage. Re-install the clean and
dry dampers into the bottom of the upper
tubes.
14. Install snap rings with the sharp outside edge facing out into upper tube ring grooves. Make certain
snap rings are oriented correctly, and the snap rings are fully seated in the ring groove of the upper tubes.

15. Smear RockShox fork oil onto the upper tubes under the fork boots.
16. Install lower tubes onto upper tubes, carefully engaging upper Resi-wiper seal lip with the upper tubes
and gently rock the one-piece lower assembly to engage lower bushings with upper tubes. When
installed properly the damper shafts are visible through the shaft bolt holes in the lower legs.
17. When necessary install new carrier washers and crush washers onto each of the shaft bolts. The plastic
surface must be facing the lower tube and the aluminum surface must face the shaft bolt.
18. Refit shaft bolts, apply blue Loctite on steel bolts. Use a 5mm hex wrench to torque shaft bolts to 60 in-
lb. (6.8Nm).
