• When necessary, use an earthed
extension lead of a suitable diameter
and make sure water cannot enter the
contact plugs of the appliance and the
extension cord.
• Make sure that the appliance, the
power cord and the plug do not come
into contact with sources of heat such
as a hot hob or naked flame.
• When the appliance is switched on,
the light will illuminate and extinguish
as the thermostat switches the
heating element on and off to maintain
the required temperature.
• The appliance must be able to
dissipate its heat to avoid a risk of fire.
Make sure that the appliance has
sufficient space around it, and does
not come in contact with flammable
material. The appliance must not be
covered when it is still hot.
• Make sure your hands are dry when
you touch the power cord or the plug.
• Switch off the appliance in the event
of a malfunction during use, before
cleaning the appliance, before fitting
or removing an accessory and before
storing the appliance after use.
• Never leave the appliance unattended
when in use.
• Never move the appliance when it is
switched on or is still hot. Before you
move the appliance, switch it off and
wait until it has cooled down.
• Do not use the appliance near another
heat source.
• Keep the appliance away from
inflammable materials, such as
curtains, towels or paper.
• The appliance may emit a little smoke
and a characteristic smell when you
switch it on for the first time. This is
normal and will soon stop. Make sure
the appliance has sufficient
ventilation.

• Take care when using the appliance.
The grill plate is very hot and can
cause burns when you touch it.
• The grill plate supplied with this
appliance is finished with a non-stick
PTFE coating. On heating this coating,
it may release small amounts of gases
which are totally harmless to humans.
However, the nervous system of birds
has been found to be extremely
sensitive to these gases. Therefore,
this appliance should not be used
near cage birds (for example, tropical
birds such as parrots).
• Do not use sharp tools on the
hotplate, such as metal spatulas,
knives and forks. This may damage
the non-stick coating.
• Never attempt to cool the appliance
down by pouring water over it. This is
dangerous and may damage the
appliance.
• The base of the appliance will be hot
when the appliance is switched on.
Use a heat-resistant (non-flammable)
table mat if you are in doubt as to
whether the surface is able to
withstand the heat.
• Charcoal or similar combustible fuels
must not be used with this appliance.
Maintenance and
cleaning
1 Remove the plug from the wall socket
and remove the thermostat from the
appliance's socket and allow the
appliance to cool down.
2 Remove any food remnants from the
appliance with a piece of kitchen paper.
3 You can clean the appliance in hot
washing-up water or in a dishwasher.
