4.4 Amplifier or recorder
An additional amplifier system or a recorder
can be connected to the jacks REC OUT (19) .
For stereo recorders, two jacks are available .
The signal is the same at each of these jacks .
The volume control MASTER (21) or the
5-band equalizer (17) will not affect the signal .
4.5 Units for signal processing
For external processing of the mixed signal,
route out the signal via the jack LINE OUT (11)
and connect it, for example, to the input of
a dynamic processor or equalizer . From the
output of this unit, the processed signal will
then be fed in again via the input LINE IN (10) .
Both connections are 2-pole 6 .3 mm jacks
which will interrupt the internal signal path
of PMX-164 after the control MASTER (21) as
soon as a plug has been connected to these
jacks .
4.6 Subwoofer
To support the reproduction of low frequen-
cies, it is possible to connect, for example, an
active subwoofer to the output SUB OUT (12) .
The output is provided with a low-pass filter;
it will filter out high frequencies .
4.7 Storage media
To replay audio files, insert an SD[HC] memory
card (notched corner downward) into the slot
(15) and / or connect a USB flash drive to the
USB port (16) .
4.8 Speakers
Connect one or two speakers to the 6 .3 mm
jacks SPEAKER OUTPUT (26) . The impedance
of the speakers connected must not fall
below 4 Ω at any output.
4.9 Power supply
Connect the plug of the mains cable (24) to
a mains socket (230 V/ 50 Hz) .
5 Operation
1) Before first-time operation, set all volume
controls (4, 20, 21) to "0" to make sure
that the volume will not be too high after
switching on .
2) Switch on the audio sources connected
before switching on PMX-164 with the
POWER switch (23) . The power LED ON
(22) will light up .
3) Use an audio source connected to replay
music, for example, or speak into a mi-
crophone . (Operation of the audio player/

CAUTION To prevent feedback noise,
Feedback noise may also occur when
the volume is too high . In this case, use
the corresponding control LEVEL (4) to
reduce the microphone volume accord-
ingly .
5) Use the controls BASS and TREBLE (3) of
the corresponding channel to adjust the
desired sound for a microphone or another
audio source connected .
6) Use the control MASTER (21) to adjust the
overall volume .
CAUTION Never adjust a very high
Your ear will get accustomed to high
volumes which do not seem to be that
high after some time . Therefore, do not
further increase a high volume after get-
ting used to it .
7) Use the controls of the 5-band equalizer
(17) to adjust the overall sound .
8) Add an echo effect to the channels
CH 1 – 6, if desired (

It will, however, be automatically switched

5.1 Echo effect
The echo effect generated in PMX-164 will
enhance the spatial impression and enrich the
sound of the signals from the microphones
and other audio sources connected to the
channels CH 1 – 6 .
1) Set the controls EFF (5) for the channels to
be provided with the effect to mid-position
for the time being . Set the controls of all
other channels to "0" .
2) Use the control LEVEL (7) to adjust the

overall volume of the effect .
3) Use the control REPEAT (9) to set the num-
ber of repeats; use the control TIME (8) to
set the speed of repeats .
4) Use the controls EFF (5) to readjust the
desired intensity of the effect for each
channel, if required .

5.2 Audio player
The integrated audio player is able to repro-
duce audio files in MP3 format or WAV for-
mat . USB flash drives or SD[HC] memory cards
(also MMC cards) are suitable storage media .
Note: Due to the large number of storage device
manufacturers and device drivers, it cannot be guar-
anteed that all storage media are compatible with
the audio player .
Connect a USB flash drive to the USB port
(16) or/and insert an SD[HC] memory card
(notched corner downward) into the slot (15) .
The replay will start when the unit is switched
on . The USB flash drive takes priority over
the memory card . When a storage medium
is connected during operation, this storage
medium will be automatically selected .
The audio player is controlled via the but-
