2) Shortly press the two buttons */T and # simulta-
neously. After approx. 2 seconds, " _ _ " will be dis-
played. The recording has been erased.
5.6 Erasing all recordings
To erase all recordings at once, it is possible to format
the complete memory.
Important: This procedure will erase all recordings
irretrievably, including the chimes. Therefore, prior to
erasure, it is recommended to save them on another
data carrier via a PC (see chapter 6).
1) Enter the number 99 via the keypad (5); it will be
shown on the display (10).
2) Shortly press the two buttons */T and # simulta-
neously. " _ _ " will be displayed and formatting will
start. After a few seconds, "00" will be displayed. All
recordings and the chimes have been erased.
5.7 Adjusting the microphone sensitivity
The sensitivity of the microphone can be adjusted on
the trimming potentiometer on the lower side of the
unit by means of a small screwdriver. Only adjust the
microphone to such a volume that the words will not be
distorted.
6 Recording management via a PC
All recordings are saved in the memory of the unit as
individual files in MP3 format. This memory is ac-
cessible like a data carrier via the USB port of a PC
equipped with the operating system WINDOWS 98,
Windows 2000, or Windows XP. This allows to save or
process the data on the PC or to transmit new sounds
in MP3 format to the ECM-550DM.
The file names are assigned as follows:
M_INT_xx.MP3
xx = 01 to 89 are the recordings 1 to 89
xx = 90 is the chime at the beginning of an announce-
ment
xx = 91 is the chime at the end of an announcement
For a PC with operating system Windows 98, it is
necessary to install a special driver prior to connecting
the ECM-550DM. For this purpose, start the file
"af98drv5lng_04.exe" from the CD supplied and follow
the instructions on screen. For the operating systems
Windows 2000 and Windows XP, this is not necessary.
Then proceed as follows:
1) (Re)start the PC.
2) Connect the ECM-550DM to the PC [see chapter 4,
item 5].

carrier among its drives. The files in the memory of
the ECM-550DM are just as accessible as files on
any other data carrier. Thus, recorded files can be
copied, erased, or resorted (by renaming). It is also
possible to erase the chimes or to replace them by

assign the file names as mentioned above.
