Transmitting MIDI Messages from the sequencer software to a MIDI
sound module or digital piano
If transmitting MIDI messages from the sequencer software to a MIDI sound module or digital piano,
or if using a MIDI sound module's or digital piano's sound generator to play the sounds from the
playback of sequencer software on the computer, make the following connections and settings.

MIDI messages are transmitted
from the sequencer software.

MIDI device setting
In your sequencer software, select the MIDI device that corresponds to the connector to which you
connected your MIDI keyboard or digital piano etc.
* For details on settings for sequencer software that uses Windows standard device settings, refer to "Setting
the Driver" (p. 21).
THRU switch setting
Turn the THRU switch off.
MIDI messages from the computer are transmitted to the MIDI device (e.g., MIDI sound module,
digital piano) connected to the UM-3EX's MIDI OUT/THRU connector.
* Don't change the setting of the THRU switch while you're using the UM-3EX. Doing so will cause MIDI
errors.
Connect to the computer's
USB connector.
THRU OFF
Connect to the MIDI IN connector of
the MIDI sound module or digital piano.
