It is recommended that all sections of this guide be reviewed prior to product use. Carefully read the Contraindications, Safety
Information and Risks and Precautions sections in the Introduction chapter of this manual prior to performing care and
cleaning procedures on the First Step Select
Daily Care and Cleaning of First Step Select™ MRS While in Use

the patient does not need to be removed from the overlay when performing daily cleaning procedures. the patient
may be bathed as the overlay is being cleaned.

Weekly Care and Cleaning of First Step Select™ MRS While in Use
In addition to daily care and cleaning, the cover sheet should be laundered or replaced weekly, or more often as needed.
excessively soiled cushions and cover sheets should be replaced and cleaned as described in the Infection Control Procedures
of this chapter.
Disassembly of First Step Select™ MRS and Cover Sheet for Laundering and Cleaning
1.
press power button to deactivate therapy control unit.
2.
Unplug therapy control unit from wall outlet.
3.
Disconnect hose set from therapy control unit and air mattress.
4.
remove cover sheet.
Infection Control Procedures
Follow all regulations outlined in OSHA Occupational Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens 29 CFR Part 1910.30 regarding
infection control procedures to be used when cleaning the first step select
In-Home Cleaning (single patient use)

When blood and / or body fluids are present, wash fabric items separate from family laundry and consult a health care
professional for proper use of the following throughout all cleaning procedures:
• Latex or rubber gloves.
• plastic apron or gown.
• protective eyewear.

Do not use petroleum based solvents or alcohol.

Chlorine bleach may fade fabric colors. Consult your health care professional if there are specific infection control
concerns or other issues regarding the use of bleach.

equipment as contaminated. When performing cleaning and disinfecting procedures, it is recommended that disposable gloves
