SECTION 13:
Frequently Asked
Questions
How do I know if Joey is
suitable for my child?
Joey is an early intervention
crawler, designed to provide
infants with an early experience
and opportunity for independent
movement from 37 weeks'
gestational age (full term) to
approx. 6 months old.
Please refer to our sizing table to
check our recommended user
dimensions and weights.
Are there any reasons not
to use Joey?
If the infant has extremes of
tone or has had recent surgery
(for spinal defects, for example),
we recommend that you seek
advice from your therapist and/or
physician before using Joey. A full
list of precautions can be found in
Section 6 for the user manual.
How many times per day
should I use Joey?
This may vary depending on the
infants' age, abilities, their mood,
and the time of day. Be guided by
the infant but avoid letting them
become too fatigued as this may
impact on their abilities in other
daily activities.
The infant may enjoy using Joey
frequently, in which case twice
daily-use of 5-minute sessions may
be appropriate. If the infant has
extremes of tone or sensory issues,
you may find that you need to
go more slowly and can build up
tolerance over time.
My child has extremes of
high/low muscle tone.
Are they suitable?
If the infant has extremes of tone,
they may find it difficult to use
Joey for the full recommended
duration of daily use. In this case,
Joey can be used to help build
strength and tolerance of this
position which can be built up
over time. If you are in any doubt
as to your child's suitability, please
consult with your therapist.
My child is unable to grip
the floor with their feet.
What should I do?
We always advise using Joey with
bare feet, as this will help the
infant to grip the floor surface. If
the floor surface you are using is
too slippery, we advise that you
try using the Daytot Activity Mat,
or another flat, smooth surface in
your home to see if this helps.
