First, the ground terminal must be connected to a ground. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE A SAFETY GROUND;
ONLY A FUNCTIONAL GROUND IS REQUIRED.
The 48V- and 48V+ terminals will be the ones that must be connected to the equipment that is to be powered.
The Battery+ and Battery- terminals will be the ones that the batteries must be connected to.
Connect the positive (+) and negative (-) cables to the terminals of the device, taking the printed polarity into
account.
IMPORTANT: Pay attention to the polarity when connecting the
batteries.
Reversing the poles can cause serious damage to the system, and to
the batteries themselves.
After the connection is made, the battery voltage should be measured when the equipment is in standby, to
check that the polarity has not been reversed during installation.
There are dangerous voltages in the battery terminals when the device is disconnected from AC. Access
to batteries must be limited to trained personnel. To avoid damage, the instructions in this manual
must be strictly followed.
It is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to short-circuit the terminals of a battery (or of one of the cells that
it consists of) before a current limiting element (fuse or circuit breaker). If this occurs, the battery
current is only limited by the internal resistance of the battery and the wiring. The very high currents
(hundreds of amperes) can cause the battery to explode and can melt wires, tools and other metal
objects.
7.3
CONNECTION OF THE BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR:
The EPS-120-5192 and EPS-200-5193 chargers incorporate a pre-wired temperature sensor to measure the
ambient temperature near the batteries.
The temperature sensor that is supplied with the charger is the only one that should be used.
The cable for this sensor is 2m long. Other sensor cable lengths can be supplied on request (standard sizes of
5m and 10m available).
The sensor must be connected to the connector that is designed for this purpose, as shown in the following
figure:
If the temperature sensor is not connected correctly, an equipment failure alarm is generated in the charger
(signalled by LEDs). If this error is not resolved, the charger will stop compensating the battery voltage and
it will then be fixed (corresponding to the reference temperature of 25ºC)
The temperature sensor that is supplied incorporates a plug-in connector at one end, and an EPOXY protected
PCB at the other end (where the temperature sensor is located). This sensor should be installed somewhere
near the batteries in order to measure their ambient temperature as reliably as possible.
